AFTER CEDAR CITY ENGAGEMENT

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: It is “A Christmas Carol on the Road” when Brad Carroll and Peter Sham’s A Christmas Carol on the Air leaves Cedar City and travels to Park City for five performances. After the hilarious retelling of the holiday classic finishes its run at Southern Utah University, the entire cast, crew and production head north. The show is scheduled to begin performances on December 19^th in the popular resort town’s historic venue, the Egyptian Theater. Hailed as “absolutely delightful” by the Deseret Morning News, the family entertainment runs through December 22^nd in Park City. SUU’s Department of Theatre Arts & Dance presents the holiday favorite Thursday-Saturday, December 6-8 and 13-15 and Mondays December 10 and 17 at the Randall L. Jones Theatre in Cedar City. Curtain time is 7:30pm for all performances. The Egyptian Theatre’s schedule is December 19-22 at 7:30pm with a 4pm matinee on Saturday, December 22. The production is directed by Brad Carroll, who staged Utah Shakespeare Festival’s highly successful Les Misérables, and marks the return of the Festival’s founder Fred C. Adams to the stage in the role of Scrooge.  

Co-creator Peter Sham is enthusiastic about this holiday tour of the show. According to Sham, “It’s going to be a great thrill for us to spread our holiday cheer in Park City, as well as an invaluable opportunity for our theatre students. It is our hope to begin a strong relationship with the historic Egyptian Theatre and its wonderful staff, and take many more productions up there in the future.”

Originally created for the Utah Shakespeare Festival, A Christmas Carol on the Air was conceived and adapted by Peter Sham and Brad Carroll with play and lyrics by Sham and score and music by Carroll, based on the Charles Dickens classic. Sham and Carroll are the co-creators of the international hit Lend Me a Tenor the Musical. The show’s delightful premise is that the beloved holiday classic is hilariously retold in the style of a classic radio show, complete with atmospheric live sound effects, wacky backstage antics, and a team of lovely, close harmony singing "Carolettes." It's a behind-the-scenes story of radio actors and their own conflicts as they tell Dickens' tale of Ebenezer Scrooge's reformation and redemption – all during a live broadcast. This delightful show is fresh and surprising, full of hilarity and harmony; and a wonderful new way for the entire family to slide into the holidays.

The cast is headed by Fred C. Adams in the role of Scrooge. Brad Carroll and Peter Sham play the roles of Stu and Chick, The Wright Brothers, heads of a fictional troupe who travel from town to town creating old-time radio classics with the help of each town’s residents. The cast also includes Chuck Metten as Chuck, Jacob Marley, Fezziwig and various other roles, Michael Bahr as Bob Cratchit and Dan Frezza. The harmonious Carolettes are embodied by Tatem Credille, Katelin Ruzzamenti and Samantha Smith. Young Orlando Sham appears in the endearing role of Tiny Tim. Rounding out the company, the ensemble play multiple roles and these hard-working actors are Trent Dahlin, Frank Gasparro, Heather Gibeson, Madisen Hayes, Sceri Ivers, Darrah Jones, Jayson LeBaron, Redge Palmer, Brooklyn Renshaw, Carly Skankey and Joe Spear.  

Collaborating with Carroll and Sham on this holiday favorite are set designer Jennifer Christensen, costume designer Kristal Armistead, lighting designer Brian Swanson, sound designer Brad Gowers, and props masters Keilani Gleave and Amanda McMall. Benjamin Harris is the assistant director. Dallin Mills serves as stage manager with Michaela Kelly and Zac Trotter as assistant stage managers.
