SUU’S ART INSIGHTS TO FEATURE
SUU ALUMNUS DANIEL GILL, GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: A gifted alumnus of SUU’s graphic design program returns to provide an insightful overview of his art and adapting his skills to the professional marketplace as part of the Department of Art and Design’s weekly lecture series Art Insights. Daniel Gill showcases his own art as well as discussing his graphic design career for a major technology firm. Gill’s presentation is scheduled for Thursday, January 16, 2014. The lecture begins at 7pm in the Sterling Church Auditorium in the Sharwan Smith Center. Admission is free and the general public is encouraged to attend.
After graduating from Southern Utah University’s Graphic Design program, Daniel Gill was immediately hired by the Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri), the innovative software company based in Redlands, California. At Esri, Gill does extensive illustration work for technical and editorial materials, and does icon design for web, mobile and desktop applications. In addition, he does print and layout design, motion graphics and apparel and promotional item design as well as tradeshow and conference booth graphics. His expertise has also allowed him to design digital signage, front-end web work and presentations for sales and keynote talks. In his spare time, Gill uses his talents to create his own art in his relaxed California surroundings.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE

The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of nationally accredited departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as a Center for Shakespeare Studies and a graduate program in Arts Administration. The College offers 16 different degree areas, including liberal arts Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; professional Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and theatre degrees; and a Master of Fine Arts in Arts Administration degree. The Center for Shakespeare Studies offers a minor in Shakespeare Studies. More than 60 full- and part-time faculty and staff are engaged in teaching and mentoring over 550 majors in the College. Over 1100 students enroll each year in over 195 arts classes on the SUU campus. The College presents 100 performances, lectures, presentations, and exhibitions each year. The College’s affiliate organizations include the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery, Utah Shakespeare Festival, and the SUU Ballroom Dance Company.
