When: Saturday, 12 February, 7:15 lessons; 8:30 dance downbeat
Where: Ballroom, Shepherd Union Building
Cost: $1/lesson • $5/dancing
The sixteen piece Junction City Big Band, directed by Dr. Earl Ericksen, presents a WSU Saturday Dance Date, February 12, in the Shepherd Union Building Ballroom. Downbeat is at 8:30 p.m. but for those who need it, professional dance instruction by Margene Anderson will be offered at 7:15 Tickets are $1 for lessons and $7 per person.
An intermission floorshow will provide entertainment while dancers have a chance to catch their breath and enjoy some light refreshments. The Ovations from Morgan HS under the direction of Marcie May will perform with the band. Also, at 10 pm, the Davis High School Moonlight Singers will perform. Expect to hear some Big Band versions of famous songs for lovers at this dance. Bring your special Valentine and see what happens!
The band was organized in 1987 under the direction of Dr. K. Earl Ericksen, then chair of the Weber State Department of Performing Arts. The Swing Era style dance band was formed specifically to give local musicians with big band experience an opportunity to continue playing for personal enjoyment as well as for community functions. Donating their time and musical skills, they have helped to keep the community “jumpin’” with the music of Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Sammy Kay, Freddie Martin, Harry James and other great swing era sounds.
Lessons will begin promptly at 7:15. No one will be admitted to the lessons after that time so please make plans to come early and be included in this fun and fantastic experience. Dance downbeat at 8:30 p.m. Best dress is recommended, which includes shirt and tie for men.

Jazz at the Station, a monthly program designed to give local jazz fans and performers an opportunity to meet and enjoy jazz, presents Joe McQueen, saxophone; and friends: Don Keipp, percussion; Steve Keen, keyboard; Lars Yorgason, bass. When his compromises result in the death of a patient, Amrit begins to reexamine the value of the religious traditions he’d turned his back on.

Film Festival for Children and Youth to Run April 1-3
Salt Lake City, UT - From April 1-3, 2011, the SLC Film Center presents the inaugural Tumbleweeds Film Festival for Children and Youth – the only film festival of it’s kind in the intermountain west. The annual festival feature a jam-packed program of feature length and short films from around the world films for children and youth ages 4-14. All films presented at Tumbleweeds will be screened in their original language with foreign language films presented with English subtitles that will be read aloud by a “subtitle reader” during the screening. In addition to film screenings, the Film Center is partnering with Spy Hop Productions to present workshops designed to introduce participants to different aspects of filmmaking. The full festival line-up and program will be announced in early March.

Salt Lake City, Utah – January 29, 2011: Pygmalion Productions presents the Salt Lake City premiere of “Well” by Lisa Kron, February 24 through March, 12 at the Rose Wagner Theatre.
The recipient of two Tony Award nominations, “Well” is a comedic narrative that plays with theatrical conventions as it explores big themes: mothers and daughters, wellness and will, racism and community health, and more.
“Well” stars two brilliant Utah actresses, Cheryl Gaysunas Williams as the playwright Lisa Kron, and Anne Cullimore Decker as her mother, Jane. The playwright places herself on stage with her mother along with a chorus of four actors. To the delight of the audience, mother Jane and the chorus continually subvert Kron’s plans and intentions for the play, sometimes breaking out of character, challenging her assumptions about her own biographical narrative and forcing her to react to ideas and motives she has not considered.
Ben Brantley of The New York Times said,
“Well” turns out to be about the mystery of human personalities, even and especially those of the people you think you know intimately…
What makes "Well" much more than a clever, deconstructed theatrical riff is the way it keeps surprising itself with glimpses of an emotional depth, both murky and luminous, that goes beyond any tidy narrative….
Now that Spalding Gray is gone, Ms. Kron may well be the best stand-up memoirist of the American theater. She has an inspired gift for spinning the depths of personal mortification into high-flying comedy, a trait in evidence a decade ago in her "101 Humiliating Stories" and still alive and kicking in “Well.”
Directed by Jason Bowcutt, “Well” also features Betsy West, Carnell Cummings, Jesse Peery, and Dee Dee Darby Duffin. Duffin returns to the Pygmalion stage after her widely acclaimed performance last year as Billie Holiday in “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill.”
