Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Hailed by The New York Times as “a pianist with a big technique, a lively mind and a passionate commitment to the music,” Peter Vinograde will give a master class to SUU’s Department of Music’s piano students on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, in Thorley Recital Hall beginning at 4:30pm. The master class is free and the public is invited to attend to observe SUU piano students perform for Dr. Vinograde.
Pianist Peter Vinograde has developed a reputation as an outstanding interpreter of J.S. Bach and contemporary composers. He tours annually throughout the United States, Canada, and Asia. As a chamber musician, Vinograde has appeared at the Bard, Bargemusic, Caramoor and Wolftrap Festivals. He has collaborated with renowned violinist Midori, and has toured with her throughout Asia, including her Singapore debut. He also performed with Midori at the Cape Cod and Mostly Mozart Festivals. Vinograde teaches at the Manhattan School of Music, where he was a student of Zenon Fishbein, and at New York’s Lehman College (CUNY). CDs include releases on Albany, CBC, Linfair (Decca) and Phoenix. Dr. Vinograde's numerous distinctions began with first prize in the 1971 J.S. Bach International Competition, followed by his New York debut at Carnegie Recital Hall and an N.E.A.‑sponsored Lincoln Center recital at Alice Tully Hall. He has been featured on NPR's Performance Today and CBC‑TV's The Journal.
Piano students of SUU’s Dr. Kirill Gliadkovsky, Assistant Professor of Piano, will be performing pieces by Lizst, Gershwin, Beethoven and Debussy for Dr. Vinograde’s master class.

The piano, poetry, and dance performance will be showcased in conjunction with digitized artwork projected behind the performers. Your underwater journey will include poetry readings, water-themed piano music, and community artwork inspired by water-myths and legends.
The afternoon educational program will introduce students to wonderful piano literature in a multi-disciplinary format. Stories, images, and art will be woven into the musical experience and help students develop greater sensitivity to music. BOUNTIFUL/DAVIS ART CENTER’S
ANNUAL STATEWIDE COMPETITION ENTRIES SOUGHT

BOUNTIFUL, Utah, February 1, 2011 – Bountiful/Davis Art Center’s Annual Statewide Competition will be exhibited from February 25 through April 1. This is one of the longest-running juried visual arts exhibitions in Utah highlighting the works of Utah’s most creative visual artists.
The competition is open to all professional Utah artists. Original works of art in the following media will be accepted: watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media, drawings, graphics, photographs, weavings/textiles and sculpture. Artists may enter up to three original works, completed within the last two years and not previously exhibited at BDAC. There is a non-refundable entry fee of $10.00 per work. BDAC members’ entry fee is $7.00 per work. The entry dates for this year’s competition are Tuesday - Saturday, February 15-19, from 10:00 until 5 pm. No entries will be accepted after 5 pm on February 19.
The juror for this year’s competition is Meri DeCaria, Curator and Director of Phillips Gallery. Meri DeCaria graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the American College in London. In 1990 she moved to Salt Lake City, where she took a position as an art consultant at Phillips Gallery which led to her current position as Director and Curator at Phillips Gallery. Ms. DeCaria’s work as a professional artist includes three commissioned public murals in the downtown Salt Lake City area, as well as a steady exhibit history since 1993. She currently serves on The Utah Museum of Fine Art’s special exhibitions selection committee, and the Eccles Community Art Center’s executive board. She has been an active member of the Salt Lake Gallery Association since 1992 and has been acting President since 2007. Her work is represented at Phillips Gallery.
Results of the jury action will be posted on the website: www.bdac.org by Monday, February 21. Awards include $400 First Place, $250 Second Place, $150 Third Place and Honorable Mentions.
There will be an Opening Reception honoring this year’s artists selected for the Annual Competition on Friday, February 25, beginning at 7:00 pm. The Awards Ceremony will begin at 8:00 pm.

Viktor Uzur has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in many countries in Europe, Asia, North America and South America. His performances, interviews and compositions have been broadcast nationally on television and radio stations in the former Yugoslavia, Russia and United States, including NPR’s “Performance Today”. Uzur has given concerts and has been an artist in residence at festivals in Austria, Spain, Italy, France, Russia, Canada, Korea, Latvia, Brazil, United States and the former Yugoslavia. He received his Bachelor and Masters degrees with soloist diploma from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. In the United States he has worked with distinguished cellists such as Suren Bagratuni, Bernard Greenhouse, Lynn Harrell, Carter Brey, Peter Wiley and David Starkweather. He holds a doctoral degree from Michigan State University. Uzur is cello professor at Weber State University in Utah.
Uzur’s recent recordings include String Theory, Viktor Uzur in Recital and Entertainers. He is the artistic director of the Bonneville Chamber Music Festival. Uzur is a prize winner and a diploma recipient at competitions such as the Yugoslavian National Solo Competition, Jeuness Musicales International Competition, and XI International Competition Tchaikovsky, Moscow.

Weber State University Department of Performing Arts presents the Weber State Symphony Orchestra in concert with the Bonneville Youth Orchestra Sunday, February 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Austad Auditorium of the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts.
The orchestra’s brass section will open the concert with the Fanfare from “La Peri” by Dukas. Following this the Bonneville Youth Orchestra, conducted by Carrie Maxson and Elissa Krebs, will take the stage and play music of Beethoven and Vaughan Williams. The Weber State Symphony Orchestra will continue the concert with three compositions, the Overture to “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss, the Serenade for 13 Winds, by Richard Strauss, and Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty Ballet Suite, Opus 66. The two orchestras will combine for the final number, the Overture to “La Forza del Destino” by Verdi.
Tickets for the concert are $5 for adults and $4 for students, seniors and those with military I.D. They can be purchased in advance at Dee Events Center Tickets, 1-800-WSU-TIKS. Weber State University Department of Performing Arts presents the Weber State Symphony Orchestra in concert with the Bonneville Youth Orchestra Sunday, February 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Austad Auditorium of the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts.
The orchestra’s brass section will open the concert with the Fanfare from “La Peri” by Dukas. Following this the Bonneville Youth Orchestra, conducted by Carrie Maxson and Elissa Krebs, will take the stage and play music of Beethoven and Vaughan Williams. The Weber State Symphony Orchestra will continue the concert with three compositions, the Overture to “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss, the Serenade for 13 Winds, by Richard Strauss, and Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty Ballet Suite, Opus 66. The two orchestras will combine for the final number, the Overture to “La Forza del Destino” by Verdi.
Tickets for the concert are $5 for adults and $4 for students, seniors and those with military I.D. They can be purchased in advance at Dee Events Center Tickets, 1-800-WSU-TIKS.
