Salt Lake City, UT -- Repertory Dance Theatre presents Ring Around the Rose, a 'wiggle-friendly' series of performances for children and families. This unique series explores the magical world of the arts, including dance, theatre, music and storytelling by presenting professional artists in a fun and approachable format.
Each show begins at 11:00 am at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center and runs for one hour. Audiences are invited to participate in different ways in each show so children have an opportunity to experience the arts first-hand while in a professional stage setting.
We have a fabulous season coming up with some brand new artists and a few old favorites. African Drums returns as a season favorite on September 8 while we introduce the talents of Utah teens from SpyHop on February 9. With everything from dance to theatre to film, there are plenty of opportunities to get your feet stomping and mind buzzing!
Ring Around the Rose 2012-2013 Season
September 8 | African Drums
Learn some new dance moves and pick up a new beat in our most hands-on show of the year! Andy Jones from Djembe Direct & and the African Heartwood project brings his large collection of drums to share with the audience. Come up on stage and learn some dance moves from West Africa and beat the dozens of different types of drums!
October 13 | Repertory Dance Theatre
Dance, draw, and discover the arts with RDT as they help the audience "draw a dance!" Everyone can doodle, but how would you make that into a dance? Join RDT while they make a 2D drawing into a 3D dance.
November 10 | Tanner Dance
Celebrate the art of modern dance as some of Utah's most talented young dancers take the stage! These dancers present a fantastic show for all ages.
December 8 | Hatch Music & Magic
Enjoy an enchanting magic show accompanied by live classical piano & violin. This unique ensemble performance features deceptionist Richard Hatch, violinist Rosemary Kimura Hatch, and pianist Jonathan Hatch and combines classical music and magic from the greats!
January 12 | Ballet West
Experience the life of a prima ballerina & find out what it's really like to dance on those tippy toes! This show introduces both children and their parents to the magical world of ballet in an approachable and fun way.
February 9 | SpyHop / Tumbleweeds
Explore the fascinating world of film with these young experts. Watch & participate in film-making first hand! SpyHop and Tumbleweeds (the children's film festival from the Utah Film Center) are teaming up to give you a behind-the-scenes look at the making of film as well as some fun films for kids.
March 9 | Youth Theatre at the U
Celebrate Dr. Seuss month with Utah's premier young actor training program. These talented young actors will bring the house down with Dr. Seuss favorites on stage.
April 13 | Rippletales
Jump into the world of imagination with this creative duo as they re-enact some old favorites! Mary Johnston-Coursey and Roz Newmark weave some twisted tales with the help of the audience.
May 11 | Samba Fogo
Learn all about Brazilian dances and rhythms with the dancers of Samba Fogo! Dancers and drummers bring Afro-Brazilian dancing and music to life on the stage and invite the audience on stage to join in the fun!
