WSU Double Reed Days @ Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts

WSU DoUble ReeD DayS
Weber State University Department of Performing Arts presents its first Double Reed Days, Friday and Saturday, 28-29 September in the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts. Events will include clinics and masterclasses on bassoon and oboe, reedmaking classes, rehearsals in oboe, bassoon and double reed ensembles, as well as a performance on each evening featuring guest artist and faculty double reed players. The festival is intended for players of all age and levels of expertise, as well as double reed teachers and band directors. Participants are invited to bring their oboe, English horn, bassoon or contra bassoon and join in.
Dr. Thomas Priest, WSU music faculty and Department of Performing Arts department chair, explains, “Often times, bassoonists and oboists do not have access to double reed experts because their numbers are typically less than other instruments. While a typical high school band may have ten flutes, it is common for a band to only have one or two oboes and bassoons. So this is an opportunity for double reed students to get together and learn with expert double-reed musicians. We hope this event will build the community of oboists and bassoonists. It should be a terrific weekend of learning and fun.”
