NEWS: Wendi Hassan of Utah Arts & Museums Receives Utah Museums Association Public Service Award

Wendi Hassan of Utah Arts & Museums
Receives Utah Museums Association Public Service Award

SALT LAKE CITY — Wendi Hassan, Community Arts and Museums Specialist with Utah Arts & Museums, was honored with the Utah Museums Association Public Service Award at their annual awards meeting during the Western Museums Association Conference in October.

“I am touched and honored by this award,” said Hassan. “Utah has more than 270 museums, and I count myself lucky every day to be working with them.”

The public service award is given to an individual who has served or is serving in a governmental capacity that, in the scope of his or her duties, has rendered vital assistance or support to Utah’s museum community. The award is not given every year and can recognize the work of legislators, state employees, teachers, or local officials.

Hassan works with museums to collect information on museum trends and attendance through an annual survey, encourages museums to implement continuous improvement through state performance goals, and helps individuals gain recognition for significant investments in professional development through the Certificate of Museum Practice.

“We are proud of Wendi, and grateful for the recognition from the Utah Museums Association,” said Utah Arts & Museums Director Lynnette Hiskey. “We hope even more of Utah’s museums will work with us to build capacity, share information, find resources, and raise awareness.”

Hassan was nominated by the Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum.
