City Library to Host Public Health Discussions with “The Doctor is In” Series (SLC: Sept 14, Oct 12, Nov 9)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Julianne Hancock E: jhancock@slcpl.org P: 801.819.3763 City Library to Host Public Health Discussions with “The Doctor is In” Series September 12, 2011 – SALT LAKE CITY – Doctors and health science experts discuss today’s health issues with the public in a series designed to address today’s health issues, trends and ideas. “The Doctor is In,” sponsored by the City Library and the University of Utah School of Medicine’s Office of Inclusion and Outreach, kicks off on September 14 at 7:00 PM. Experts from the School of Medicine will address today’s health issues, trends, and ideas and answer attendees’ concerns and questions with the most current and cutting-edge information available. · Wednesday, September 14, 7 p.m.: Fact or Fad: Nutrition Education at the University of Utah School of Medicine. It is widely known that good nutrition is an essential component of good health. But what is good nutrition? Dr. Janet Lindsley from the University of Utah will share how future doctors are learning to think about nutrition and analyze the differences between fact and fad. · Wednesday, October 12, 7 p.m.: Water Quality and Health. Local water supplies are a hot topic today. Is local water safe to drink? Is bottled water better for your overall health? Dr. Scott Benson, MD, MPH, PhD, will shed light on water safety and human health. · Wednesday, November 9, 7 p.m.: Air Quality and Health. The quality of the air we breathe is one the most pressing environmental health issues in the Salt Lake Valley. At this session, hear from Dr. Richard Kanner, MD, a pulmonologist (lung doctor) and Professor of Internal Medicine, Division of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine, who will speak about Salt Lake City's air, what risks air pollution pose for our community members, and what we can do to protect ourselves today and in the future.
