August Events in Park City

Park Silly Sunday Market promotes Summit County Fair on Sunday, August 1st. Summit County Fair will have booths at the Market, educating market goers about the fun festivities taking place at the Fair! There will be a Variety Show from 1-2pm at the Main Stage with some fun local performers. Come help decorate the Park Silly Derby car and check out the Dog-Parade! Also go to the Fair website to get the full schedule of events occuring from August 7 to 14. The Summit County Fair Art Show runs Aug. 12-14 at the North Summit High School in Coalville, featuring works by local artists in painting, photography, ceramics and metal work. The Art Show is free and open to the public.


The Kimball Art Center is set to host the 41st annual Park City Kimball Arts Festival, one of the top art festivals in the country on August 6-8, 2010. More than 230 artists have been selected to participate in this annual juried show, featuring work in 12 categories - ranging from paintings to jewelry to sculpture and photography. The three-day festival is set to offer a newly programmed multi-sensory artistic experience, including visual-art exhibitions, live musical performances, cuisine-related activities, art-focused film screening, as well as its largest fundraising event, The Park City Kimball Arts Festival Opening Night Gala and Auction. The St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights Series, presented by Park City Performing Arts Foundation, brings Mr. Blue Eyed Soul himself - Michael MacDonald - to Deer Valley Resort's Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater on August 8. This Grammy Award-winning, gold and platinum-selling R&B/soul singer and songwriter whose roots with the Doobie Brothers cemented his place in the annals of rock ´n´ roll history is a soulful, stylish and graceful veteran musician, famous for standards like "What a Fool Believes" and "Sweet Freedom." And on August 20, St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights Series, returns to Deer Valley with the notoriously elaborate and dynamic stage show by Earth, Wind & Fire. Prospector Arts presents the Utah Artists Expo 2010, August 9-21 at the Prospector Square Lodge & Conference Center. The 2010 Expo will feature competitions with a $1,000 grand prize, clinics in arts and performance with outstanding artists like the incredible Jeff Coffin, sax player for The Dave Matthews Bank and Mark O'Connor, one of the worlds' top violinist/fiddle-players. Competitions will also include the Expo Battle of the Bands plus the 48 Hr Film Marathon. Throw on your best 80s Prom gear, wear that sideways poneytail and grab a date and head to The Egyptian Theatre for The Awesome 80s Prom! The Awesome 80s Prom will be at the Theatre, Thursday through Saturday, August 13 - 22 and is an interactive show that brings the audience to the prom at Wanaget High in 1989. The show will be different every night so come more than once! Whether you want to remember your glory days or experience the Prom you never had, this show promises to be a unique experience. Gallery MAR presents a new exhibit beginning on July 30. "Color Theories", New Works by Mary Scrimgeour and Ron Russon begins with an artists reception with both artists present in conjunction with the monthy Park City Gallery Association Gallery Stroll. Also, check out their other August exhibits and events, including and exclusive trunck show of jewelry by Susan Richer of "Eagle Designs" and Cyndi Sharp of "Rooted in Stone" in conjunction with the Arts Festival on August 6 & 7.



Art Especially for Children of all Ages


Arts-Kids presents their 2nd Camp Artventure at Park City Mountain Resort from 9am to 1pm, August 2-6. The camp includes fun activities such as the Alpine Slide. Youth City artists Kerri Hopkins and Hillary Moorlegham are teaming up to bring movement, animation and film together for three days. Participants will end up with a DVD of their film in which they portray an animated character! To balance out the week Debbie Middlebrook will bring music of all modalities for the kids to perform and use the Karaoke Machine; and our favorite face painter Erin will teach the children to face paint on each other. The Egyptian Theatre presents a FREE KIDS SHOW by Michael Kelsey on Sunday, August 1, 4-5pm. Kelsey plays every inch of his guitar and makes it sing, soar, pop and ping--by strumming it, pounding it and pulling every part of it or anything else an arm's length or foot kick away. He has created a style that he described best as “progressive-aggressive acoustic guitar". Your kids will have a whole new appreciation for the guitar!


The Park City Museum in partnership with the Park City Library will present Adam Miller, folksinger, storyteller and Autoharp virtuoso on Thursday, August 12th at 1pm. This is part of the Library's summer program "Make a Splash at Your Library". Adam will entertain with interactive sing-alongs to introduce youngsters to folksongs about swamps, rivers, oceans, and the creatures who make their homes in aquatic environments. It will take place in the Jim Santy Auditorium.
