SUU College of Performing & Visual Arts Announces New Faculty & Staff

SUU COLLEGE OF PERFORMING AND VISUAL ARTS ANNOUNCES NEW FACULTY AND STAFF

(Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah) The College of Performing and Visual Arts is proud to announce the appointment of new faculty members for the 2010-2011 year: Deborah K. Snider, Assistant Professor of Art Education; Rheana M. Gardner, Assistant Professor of Photography; and Michael French, CPVA Public Information Coordinator.
Assistant Professor of Art Education Deborah K. Snider comes to SUU from Mesa State College, where she has been Assistant Professor of Art Education, Arts Administration, and Studio Art for the past nine years. Snider was recognized with Mesa State College’s Exemplary Faculty Designation three years in a row. She has also been honored as Higher Education Art Educator of the Year by the Colorado Art Education Association. Snider holds an M.A. in Art Education from the University of Colorado at Boulder and an M.F.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College in Vermont. At SUU, Snider will teach secondary art methods, two-dimensional design, and drawing classes, in addition to supervising art education majors during their student teaching experiences.

Assistant Professor of Photography Rheana M. Gardner comes to SUU from the Bay Area in CA, where she was the lead instructor of Digital Photography at Galileo Summer Quest. Gardner has also taught workshops at the Academy of Art University. In addition, Gardner has been a professional photographer for The Sharper Image, San Francisco Magazine, Citizen Thai & the Monkey and Xpress Magazine. She has been internationally recognized for her exhibition “Body Pulses,” which won 2nd Place at the 3rd Annual International Juried Exhibition in 2009. Gardner holds an M.F.A. in Photography from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA. At SUU, Gardner will teach photography and digital imaging classes.

Michael French, an experienced performing arts marketer, comes to SUU from San Jose, CA, where he has been working as a performing arts marketing consultant. French has worked in marketing for the American Musical Theatre of San Jose, the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, and the Walnut Street Theatre. He is also an experienced copy writer and has written book jacket copy for publishing companies and promotional literature for various arts, literature and music journals. French will join the CPVA marketing staff to publicize and promote over 100 performing and visual arts events presented at SUU each year.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE

The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of the departments of Art and Design, Music, and Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as a graduate program in Arts Administration. The College offers 16 different degree areas, including liberal arts Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; professional Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and theatre degrees; and a Master of Fine Arts in Arts Administration degree. The departments of Art and Design, Music and Dance are nationally accredited.

More than 60 full‐ and part‐time faculty and staff are engaged in teaching and mentoring over
550 majors in the College. Over 1100 students enroll each year in over 195 arts classes on the SUU campus. The College presents 100 performances, lectures, presentations, and exhibitions each year.

The College’s affiliate organizations include the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery, American Folk
