SALT LAKE CITY (July 7) - In a continuing effort to give back to the community throughout the clean-up of the Red Butte Creek oil spill, Chevron is reaching out to say a special thanks to the staff and volunteers of Utah's Hogle Zoo, who played a vital role in the Liberty Park bird cleanup.

On July 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the staff and volunteers who saved the lives of literally hundreds of waterfowl contaminated with the oil from the spill will be thanked by Utah Chevron Refinery Manager Mark Sullivan as well as Hogle Zoo's Executive Director Craig Dinsmore.

"Caring for animals is our main mission here at Utah's Hogle Zoo, so of course our employees and many volunteers stepped up to help when needed, and they did an outstanding job for long hours under difficult conditions," Dinsmore said. "We appreciate Chevron's support in thanking these people who worked so hard and saved so many birds."

A special luncheon will be held in Hogle Zoo's Event Pavilion, located near the Main Entry Plaza to officially say "thanks" for the countless hours it took to clean the ducks and geese so they could return to their natural environment. It is estimated that 266 waterfowl were collected, cleaned and either have or are slated to be released. Without the tireless efforts of the Zoo staff and volunteers, this would not have been possible.

Zoo Director Craig Dinsmore, Utah Chevron Refinery Manager Mark Sullivan and those who assisted in the cleanup will be available for interviews regarding their important roles in the operation.
