Art Access Gallery Announces
July Gallery Exhibitions
Salt Lake City, UT - Jun 30, 2010 Art Access/VSA Utah are pleased to present "Our Father's Kitchen" it the Art Access Gallery and "We Are Amused" in Access II Gallery. Both shows will open with an Artists' Reception on Friday, July 16 from 6 to 9 PM and will hang through August 13.
Our Father's Kitchen
This exhibit is organized by former Salt Lake City artist, Olivia Mae Pendergast. Malawi artists, Lancelot Chirwa, Mosses Julius Chipeta Nkhotakota and Shafi Banda Nkhotakota, will display their photograhs, drawings and paintings along with those of Pendergast.
The title of the exhibit refers to an organization in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where children who are living with HIV/AIDS, are involved in a feeding program that provides them with one meal per day, seven days a week. This enables them to take their Anti-Retroviral Drugs and not get sick from the meds they need to survive. Most of their parents have HIV/AIDS and some of the children are orphans. Our Father's Kitchen (OFK) encourages children to go to school and to live healthy and normal lives.
According to Pendergast, " The children at OFK are so beautiful; many of them are in shock, due to losing their parents. It was an honor to get to know them a little bit and photograph them, as I spent a number of days there. I will give a percentage of my art sales back to the Our Father's Kitchen Feeding Program in Addis Ababa".
Malawian artists will recieve 100% of their art sales from this exhibition.

We Are Amused
This exhibit features six artists known for their sense of humor. The title of the Art Access curated exhibit is a take-off on the stereotypical phrase, "we are not amused," often spoken by haughty royals in British comedies. Utah has a wealth of fine artists who approach their work with a sense of humor. Art Access has assembled a small group of these artists who use a variety of approaches to personal humor.
Artists included are Sam Wilson, Bob Kleinschmidt, Zane Lancaster, Dottie Miles, Pat Bagley, and Sara Shephard Edgar.
Sam Wilson, University of Utah Professor of Art, bases his humor on puns and references to classical Italian art while Bob Kleinschmidt, retired chair of the printmaking department of the U of U, incorporates his droll humor into his printmaking.
Zane Lancaster, former student of Wilson and now well-known in his own right, lampoons "big wigs" and captains of large corporations in his work. Dottie Miles is best known for her gentle lampooning of women with all their foibles, while Pat Bagley, The Salt Lake Tribune's political cartoonist, takes no prisoners with his barbed humor. Sara Shephard Edgar transforms everyday events into humorous happenings with her gentle wit.
