Art Access Gallery is pleased to host Elegant Decline, an exhibit dealing with the process of aging. Anne Morgan Jespersen and Wendy Chidester examine this process through their paintings of nature, objects, and yes, even people.

Talking about this unique and beautiful exhibition, Morgan Jespersen explains, "For several years, I have been intrigued with attitudes toward the process of aging. Often the beauty, wisdom and elegance of aging are overlooked, especially in our culture. I have selected a special group of people and also elements in nature that have become more beautiful with age. They represent to me the strength, hope, tenacity, beauty and creativity present in lives well lived".

Likewise, Chidester says that she is drawn to the abandoned and neglected places and objects of yesterday. "In today's fast paced, high tech world, we've left behind an incredible array of sturdy, well-worn tools, gadgets, pieces of equipment and mechanical gems. These are the subjects for my paintings, and I enjoy the challenge they present".

The scratches, dents, and worn edges are important to Chidester and she incorporates several application processes, including the old masters technique of glazing until the desired effect of adding depth and the perception of age, is achieved.
