About Joel
Art Access/VSA Utah's selection to represent Utah in the 2011 VSA International Young Soloists competition.
Joel, as a musician, is going through a stage of growth, and his new recordings are a progression away from his Pop roots. He's taken a striking left turn, developing a charming, if not complex and lush, sound. His songs draw upon real experiences that open windows onto himself, as well as the listener. With lyrics like, "Why is your pillow crying? Maybe it's lonely like you" from his song "Lullaby", an earnest serenade to his mother, Brown showcases heart-felt lyricism and evokes strong emotional images. His voice is omnipotent and pleasurable, and he skillfully manipulates his vocals to create high peaks and lulling lows. Joel's enthusiasm and commitment to his music have allowed him to demand and captivate the attention of every audience he graces.
