Grant Opportunited for Museums @ Div. of Arts & Museums: Deadline March 31

For immediate release
2 March 2011

Grant opportunities available for museums
Arts Project Grants also still available

The Utah Division of Arts & Museums is accepting applications from museums for development and project grants. The purpose of these grants is to help museums develop projects to improve their professional skills in accepted museum practices; better preserve, exhibit and interpret their collections; and improve their service to their communities. Certified Utah Museums are eligible to apply. The due date for Musem Development Grants and Museum Project Grants is 5 p.m. March 31, 2011.

“Utah museums contribute significantly to the cultural vitality of Utah, attracting millions of visitors each year,” said Margaret Hunt, Utah Division of Arts & Museums Director, “and we are pleased to offer this funding to help museums achieve their goals.” Previously funded projects have supported collection management, storage and cataloging, marketing and public relations, and temporary staff to carry out the project.

Development grants are for museums open less than 1,000 hours per year with a maximum award of $1,000. Project Support Grants have a maximum award of $6,000 and require some level of matching funds.

The Utah Division of Arts & Museums is also still accepting applications for Arts Project Grants, a new grant opportunity designed to enable organizations and groups whose primary mission may or may not be arts-based, to develop and provide arts-based projects to the general public. Applicants can apply for up to $2,000 for arts projects such as festival, exhibitions, concerts and other innovative public presentations that advance the arts in a community or geographic region. The deadline for Arts Project Grants is 5 p.m. March 15, 2011.

Specific grant guidelines and requirements are available at www.artsandmuseums.utah.gov under “funding” and then “grants”. Museum Development Grant and Museum Project Grant applications will be reviewed by the Utah Division of Arts & Museums Office of Museum Services Advisory Board. Arts Project Grants will be reviewed by a panel of community experts that will make funding recommendations to the Utah Arts Council Board of Directors.
