NEWS: SLC’s Lunatic Fringe Salon Wins Coveted North American Hairstyling Award (NAHA)

SLC’s Lunatic Fringe Salon Wins Coveted
North American Hairstyling Award (NAHA)
August 11, 2012, Salt Lake City, UTAH – Lunatic Fringe won “Salon Team of the Year” in the prestigious North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) competition, beating out four other finalists. This award comes on the heels of Lunatic Fringe’s NAHA award win in the “Salon MBA” category in 2010. Lunatic Fringe also received nominations in the 2012 categories of “Avant Garde” and “Newcomer Stylist of the Year,” and individual Lunatic Fringe stylists have won various NAHA awards throughout the years.
NAHA is considered the Olympics of hairstyle awards in North America and is a pantheon to the artistry and creativity of individual hairstylists and entire salons. Winning an award is considered a great honor and career-distinguishing move.
For the Salon Team of the Year award, the Lunatic Fringe team was required to work together to submit five images of five different models, illustrating the team’s “diversity, versatility, creativity and expertise in hairstyling.” A link to the winning five photos that garnered the award can be found at: http://www.probeauty.org/naha/winners-and-finalists/?category=ST&id=1473.
Lunatic Fringe’s Creative Director, Fumi Eguchi, is the photographer behind the winning images that resulted in this year’s award. An accomplished and award-winning hairstylist, Fumi trained at the Vidal Sassoon Academy in California and has opened two salons in Salt Lake City. Fumi has worked with Apollo Anton Ohno, Mandy Moore, and Andre and Masha Kirilinko. After turning to high-fashion photography, one of his images won the Vidal Sassoon ISSE competition in Long Beach, CA.
About Lunatic Fringe

Husband-and-wife team Angie Katsanevas and Shawn Trujillo started Lunatic Fringe 12 years ago, building their business on the values of opportunity, business, passion and education. They promote a positive work environment and foster continued learning and artistic growth for their salon team. From Lunatic Fringe’s first home in a small 700-foot cottage in downtown Salt Lake City, they have expanded to seven other Utah locations, Boise, Nashville, Orlando, and Ohio, with other locations to be announced. They also own Paul Mitchell the School in Holladay.

This is not the first time Lunatic Fringe has garnered extensive national attention: Elle Magazine has more than once listed Lunatic Fringe as one of the top 100 salons in the country, and the salon has been featured in InStyle, Modern Salon, American Salon, Cut and Dry magazines and countless national and local publications. Lunatic Fringe stylists have received numerous industry acknowledgements in Behind the Chair, Cut and Dry and Canadian Hair Dresser magazines.

Katsanevas and Trujillo believe strongly in giving back to the community. Through hair shows, cut-o-thons and other events, they have donated over $250,000 over the last five years to local charities.
