Utah Artists @ Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery (Cedar City: June 18)

TALENTS OF LOCAL ARTISTS TO BE FEATURED AT THE BRAITHWAITE FINE ARTS GALLERY

(Southern Utah University, Cedar City, UT) Many talented artists from around the state of Utah will be showcased at the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery this summer during the Southern Utah Art Invitational and Sale. The exhibit will open with a reception on Friday, June 18, 2010, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. and will continue through Saturday, September 4, 2010. The extended summer Gallery hours are Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

Approximately 25 artists will be participating in this year’s Invitational exhibition. A wide array of media will be featured including fused glass, oil, photography and ceramics. “Southern Utah is home to many fantastic artists. This exhibition is an opportunity to showcase the wonderful work they do,” say Reece Summers, Gallery Director.

This exhibit has gathered a group of artists that have a variety of backgrounds and techniques. For example, J. Brad Holt, a lifelong resident of Cedar City, learned the mechanics of painting from the prominent southern Utah painter, Jim Jones. Anne Weiler-Brown, of Springdale, creates abstract expressions using substantial textures. St. George resident, Shane Christensen creates pottery that is inspired by the American folk tradition as well as other Asian influences. All artwork on display will be for sale.

Throughout the exhibition artists will be on hand to demonstrate various painting techniques. Visit the Gallery website, listed below, for dates and times of these artist demonstrations.
