Craft Lake City Artisans Begin Art Installations in Plakats July 13

SALT LAKE CITY, Thursday, July 12 - The twelve Craft Lake City chosen to display their work as a walk-able outdoor gallery exhibit titled, "Celebration of the Hand" will begin their installations on Friday, July 13 at 3 p.m. Installations will continue throughout the weekend, beginning at 3 p.m. daily. See attached schedule for complete details regarding times and locations that installations will take place. The twelve participants will create outdoor works of art utilizing permanent steel frames (known as plakats) installed adjacent to the sidewalks in downtown Salt Lake City on the North and South sides of Broadway (300 South) between 200 West and 200 East. Craft Lake City was granted usage of the plakats by The Temporary Museum of Permanent Change. "Celebration of the Hand" will open on July 20, in conjunction with the Salt Lake Gallery Stroll.

Artisans include Annika DiMeo, Michelle Christenesen, Nic Annette Miller, Keith McKeown, Issac Hastings, Rachelle Smith, Angela Flicker, Laura Frisk, Carrie Wakefield, Jorge Arellano, Eleanor Scholz and Candace Jean Anderson.

"We feel that the 12 chosen artisans are an excellent representation of the diversity present at Craft Lake City," says Festival Director Angela H. Brown. "We are also thrilled to become the newest organization to participate in The Temporary Museum of Permanent Change´s outdoor museum," The plakats were installed in 2007, and have been utilized by various non-profits, such as Sundance, Spy Hop and Tumbleweeds Film Festival. "The Celebration of the Hand" will be displayed through the festival, which takes place on Sat. August 11 at the Gallivan Center.

About Craft Lake City: The Craft Lake City festival is an annual outdoor celebration of Utah´s DIY handmade culture. About The Temporary Museum of Permanent Change: The Temporary Museum of Permanent Change is a community based, participatory project that uses the ever-changing development processes underway in Salt Lake City as catalysts to animate city life.
