Farm Tours presented by the Downtown Farmers Market and Edible Wasatch

Salt Lake City - The Downtown Farmers Market and Edible Wasatch present a series of Farm Tours in July, Aug., Sept. and October that focus on different aspects of local food production. This is the first year for the tours--influenced by the Market’s commitment to farm to fork education and buying local. Themes, prices, and times for each class will vary.

“At the Market, patrons shop for farm-fresh products from more than 100 regional growers,” said Kim Angeli-Selin, market manager. “These tours bring patrons directly to the source to gain a greater understanding of how local producers operate their businesses. Farmers Markets are such an important part of the food landscape in Utah, and these tours further our mission to connect the rural and urban communities in our state.”

The first class is focused on cheese and wine and will be July 20, 3-9 p.m.; tickets are $40. Patrons will meet at Caputo’s Deli & Market (314 West 300 South).
Details:
The wine and cheese tour begins with a overview of the cheese making scene in Utah, presented by Matt Caputo, with samples and wine. From Caputo's Market, a bus will drive participants to Eden, UT to visit Snowy Mountain Sheep Creamery. At the creamery, cheeses will be paired with wines from local purveyor, Kiler Grove. The farm experience offers an insight into a farmstead dairy operation from the animals to the milking process to the cheese making panache.
