Sponsored by the SUMA Community Engagement Committee (SCEC), the SUMA Art Home Tour is scheduled for Saturday, August 6, 2011, and begins at 9:30am with a break for luncheon at SUU’s President’s home at 12 noon and continues at 2:00pm until 4:00pm. The SUMA Art Home Tour spotlights five stunning art collections which include the works of renowned international and regional artists – not seen by the general public. On the tour, art lovers will encounter breath-taking works created by noted European artists. Original works by regional favorites includes incomparable art by Jim Jones, Kate Starling, Ron Rencher, J. Brad Holt, and Arlene Braithwaite to name only a few. Overall, participants will witness remarkable paintings, ceramics, sculpture, pottery, stained glass and photography, which are among the mediums in these priceless collections.

An artist himself, Chef Imi has built an outstanding reputation for himself in southern Utah, first at Cosmopolitan Restaurant in Silver Reef and now at Orchids Restaurant at the Lexington Hotel in St. George. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors for his signature cuisine.

A highlight of the gourmet luncheon will be an “Opportunity to Win” the original artwork created by southern Utah favorite J. Brad Holt for the Art Home Tour and recent SUMA Art Hike posters. The donation for the “Opportunity to Win” is $10.00 per entry and may be purchased online, at the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery, at check-in or at the luncheon. You do have to attend the Tour in order to purchase an “Opportunity to Win.”
Attendees must be 14 years of age and up. Each participant must have a ticket. Young children including infants are not permitted on the tour. No smoking, photography or pets in any of the homes will be allowed. For women, flat shoes are suggested due to the amount of walking on the tour. Note: two homes will require all participants to wear protective booties prior to entering home (booties will be provided by the tour). Participants must provide their own transportation. The tour is not handicap compliant.

Check-in for the tour will be held at Artisans Gallery 94 West Center Street, Cedar City, on Friday, August 5 at 2-4pm and on Saturday, August 6 at 8:30-9:30am. All participants must check in for the tour in person to receive the map and info packet for the tour. This information will not be mailed out.

The SUMA Community Engagement Committee (SCEC) has been formed to build public awareness for the Southern Utah Museum of Art. The multi-gallery museum will feature increased exhibition space including one gallery devoted to the works of renowned Utah artist Jim Jones, while additional galleries feature rotating exhibits. A benefit to all students from the local and SUU communities will be increased classroom and studio space for hands-on educational activities for K-12 school groups as well as art classes for university students. This remarkable venue will be located on the campus of Southern Utah University. Recent activities created by SCEC include Future SUMA Artists: the 3-Inch Art Show and the SUMA Art Hikes.

Do not miss the opportunity to spend a day enjoying stunning art and savoring delicious food while benefitting the future of art in southern Utah. Make your plans now to attend the SUMA Art Home Tour. For more information, visit www.suu.edu/pva/suma or call (435) 586-5462.
