Salt Lake City, UT: The Utah Arts Festival is proud to feature artist Pilar Pobil with her exhibit called Expressions in Color June 21–August 3 at The Gallery at Library Square, 4th Floor in the Salt Lake City Main Library, 210 East 400 South.
Pobil will speak about her life and art during a Gallery Talk on Thursday, June 21 at 6:30pm followed by an Opening Reception at 7pm.
She will also host a hands-on workshop during the Utah Arts Festival, Friday and Saturday, June 22 and 23, 1–3pm. Participants will work on embellishing a picture frame using the techniques Pobil uses with her own artwork. Pobil will have the frames prepped and painted and will provide paints, brushes and stencils. Pre-registration is required with a limit of 12 students per class. Fee: $25.
Pobil was born in Spain at a time when women were not encouraged to pursue their ambitions. Her father was an admiral in the Spanish Navy and was killed in the Civil War, when she was a very young child. Her conservative mother gave Pobil a convent school education. She married and came to the United States. It was not until she was in her 40’s that she began her artistic journey. Since the 1970’s she has amassed a large body of work, which can be seen in galleries and museums throughout Utah as well as Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico and Guaymas, Mexico.
