Governors Look to the Arts to Boost Economic Growth

Governors Look to the Arts to Boost Economic Growth
New research from the National Governors Association (NGA) illustrates how the arts, culture and design can drive economic growth. New Engines of Growth: Five Roles for Arts, Culture and Design uses a unique blend of cultural case studies and economic theory to demonstrate how the arts offer a competitive edge for cultivating high-growth industries, accelerating innovation, catalyzing entrepreneurial activity, reducing unemployment, building human capital and reviving distressed areas. Produced by the NGA in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies, the new report is designed as a policy guide for elected officials, civic leaders and public agencies. The report also is a useful tool for cultural organizations and arts advocates making the case for the economic value of the arts.
