JOB TITLE: UCCC Foundation & CAB Development Deputy Director DEPARTMENT: Administration DIVISION: Arts and Culture REPORTS TO: Utah Cultural Celebration Center Executive Director FLSA STATUS: PREPARED BY: Human Resources Office PREPARED DATE: October 2013 APPROVED BY: APPROVAL DATE: SUMMARY:The Utah Cultural Celebration Center Foundation (UCCCF) & Cultural Arts Board (CAB) Development Deputy Director holds a leadership role in maximizing the potential for fundraising through the UCCC Foundation and for community engagement through the CAB. This is an appointed, at will position. Job appointment is at the pleasure of the City Manager. The Development Deputy Director must be a passionate supporter and promoter of the Mission of the Utah Cultural Celebration Center (UCCC). Dual responsibilities of this position have the potential to significantly advance the mission of the UCCC into the future. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned, highly creative, and fundraising professional who has a keen interest in the social and economic development aspects of culture and the arts, and who is ambitious about finding new ways to drive non-profit financial growth. The UCCCF & CAB Development Deputy Director is a voting member of the Cultural Arts Board of West Valley City. This position has no supervisory responsibilities over the UCCC staff, and this position reports directly to the UCCC Executive Director. The position functions in support of the UCCC programming, events, and operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: UCCCF: Design and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy for the UCCCF and Endowment including identifying funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and public sources (City, County, State and Federal) that prospect individual and major donors. Develop and implement a capital campaign to support facility expansion and staff increases on the lower level of the building. With the approval of the Executive Director and specific members of the Executive Staff, the UCCCF & CAB Development Deputy Director will cultivate and expand positive fundraising relationships among corporate and foundation constituencies as well as with key donors and potential donors. Develop and implement fundraising activities in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner including corporate, legacy, major gifts, trusts, and community fundraiser events. Promote a cause-driven fundraising approach that highlights the values, priorities, and mission of the UCCC. Create compelling grant submissions, presentations, and comprehensive fundraising proposals. Monitor grant and funding proposal and reporting deadlines. Prepare, edit, and manage submission in accordance with funder requirements. Identifies individuals, corporations, donors, and philanthropists and charts their cycles of donation so that timely applications and submission can be made in accordance with funder requirements. Ensure that stewardship and reporting requirement are met to sustain successful partnerships by maintaining detailed records of solicitation activities. Collaborate with various communities to increase and maintain the UCCCF visibility. Work with the Foundation's accountants and financial advisors to help prepare and propose an annual budget to the board. Prepare the UCCCF annual report for presentation to the UCCCF Board of Directors and the IRS. CAB: Assist the UCCC Executive Director in managing the CAB functions. In the absence of the Executive Director of the CAB Executive Board, serves as the Vice Chair of the CAB Executive Board (non-voting member). Give leadership support to the Cultural Arts Board volunteer membership groups, which consist of the West Valley Arts Council, Historical Society, Sister City Committee, UCCC Advisory Board, and the UCCCF as directed by the CAB Executive Director. Serve as a voting member on the CAB Executive Board as the UCCCF representative. Give support to the UCCCF Advisory Board as directed by the President of the Foundation or his/her designate and the Executive Director of the Cultural Arts Board. Promote and build the CAB membership including recruiting and motivating new members. OTHER: Prepare and track statistical information for the UCCCF and CAB. Attend community events that may not be related to the Foundation directly to demonstrate the Foundation's role within each targeted community and to help ensure that others will attend the Foundation's events. Keep donors apprised of activities at the UCCC which would help in the fundraising efforts. Other duties as assigned, including add duties that UCCC staff may be involved in under the direction of the Executive Director. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as the CAB Membership Volunteer Group Chairperson as directed by the CAB Executive Director. Attend all CAB Membership Volunteer Group meetings, as an observer only, and report back to the CAB Executive Director on items for action. QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated experience in building and sustaining corporate and foundation relations. Strong communication skills, including excellence in speaking, writing, presenting. Experience in initiating new contacts and soliciting support. Ability to work independently; a proven self-starter. Experience with, and interest in integrating traditional donor engagement models with social media strategies. Demonstrated experience working with a network of volunteer fundraisers. Outstanding interpersonal skills and comfort in culturally diverse environments. Experience with international public relations including proper protocol for dignitary functions is a plus. The Coordinator must be a team player and have the ability and attitude to support the good of the entire organization. Candidates must be currently eligible for employment in the United States. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience in fundraising/development in a non-profit setting, or a combination of education (Bachelor's Level) and relevant experience that totals seven (7) years. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to speak and write in a foreign language is preferred. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence to governmental agencies and/or donors. Ability to speak effectively before groups and the media as assigned. OTHER SKILLS: Ability to understand basic math, statistics, finance, and accounting. Ability to learn new processes and computer programs. Ability to problem solve logically and to make decisions in a timely and reasonable manner. Must be able to handle work place stress with professionalism and respect. Ability to foresee problems and quickly find solutions that are amenable to those involved. Ability to take direction and to keep supervisors informed of activities and work progress. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a current Utah driver's license. Membership in various organizations as directed by City Administration and direct supervisor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to talk, hear, walk, stand, and climb on a ladder, without difficulty. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and be able to physically set up and take down events of activities.
