Weber State University Department of the Performing Arts and the Union Station Foundation present Jazz at the Station with Benjamin Jennings and The Rectifiers, Wednesday, September 14, 7:00 pm in the Grand Lobby of Ogden’s Union Station. The Rectifiers are Adam Kozlewki, guitar; Clint Stanger, bass; and Bobby Gilbert, drums. The program could also feature other jazz musicians in the area, doing what they do best.
Jennings performs with jazz ensembles and other groups in the northern Utah area. In addition to being a musician, Jennings also assists in producing the Jazz at the Station program and is often included in the “and friends” option of other players such as Zoltan Vegvari, Viktor Uzur and Joe McQueen. His love of jazz really began when he first started attending Jazz in the Skyroom, the earliest incarnation of this program, in 1998. Listening to and meeting jazz musicians changed the direction of his musical interests. He now works to share that interest with others.
The Rectifiers personnel:
Brought up in Montana, Adam Kozlewski began by teaching himself to play more than 20 years ago. He was also guided by his stepfather, singer/songwriter/guitarist, Paul “Dr. Mongo” Garrison. Kozlewski started by playing rock, later adding blues, folk and jazz to his repertoire. Adam studied guitar performance at Utah State University for a year before moving to the Ogden area. He is now a graduate of the music education program at Weber State University, with an emphasis on guitar. Kozlewski also performs both solo and duo gigs at various venues along the Wasatch Front. He has perfomed with the WSU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo under Dr. Don Keipp, and the WSU classical guitar ensembles under Todd Woodbury.
Clint Stanger, from Roy, began taking guitar lessons from Dan McKay at 13, and never looked back. The first song he learned was Nirvana’s version of The Man Who Sold the World. He got started on a healthy dose of grunge/alternative, but soon branched out into folk, blues, jazz, and classical guitar. He has been teaching guitar since 2004 and has picked up the drums, bass, and even a little piano on the side, making him a well-rounded musician. Specializing in a variety of styles, Clint likes the challenge of rock, blues, folk, western, and jazz. He recently graduated from WSU where he was a member of the WSU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo
Bobby Gilgert is a sophomore at WSU and is a member of the WSU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo.
Jazz at the Station provides an all-ages venue for jazz fans and students. Well behaved children are welcome to attend as long as they do not disturb the performers or members of the audience.
