Popular Favorites and Exciting New Works Feature in Ririe-Woodbury’s Polychromatic
Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company presents Polychromatic September 22-24, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, 138 West Broadway, Salt Lake City.
This first show of the Ririe-Woodbury season beautifully combines audience favorites with exciting new works resulting in a performance with something that every attendee can love.
Our stunning new commission, Brook Notary’s physically charged and visually mesmerizing, “GRID,” brilliantly juxtaposes complex dance structures and a strikingly simple stage setting culminating in a sensational work that leaves the audience astounded. The New York Times has hailed Notary’s work as “choreographic magic” and proclaimed her “adept at theatrical conjuration.”
Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Ririe-Woodbury Artistic Director, will also premiere “Push,” her exciting new work that explores the mental faculty by which one deliberately chooses or decides upon a course of action - championing freedom of will against a doctrine of predetermination. The Salt Lake Tribune dubbed Boye-Christensen’s work “poignant” and “multifaceted.”
“Spurts of Activity before the Emptiness of Late Afternoon” (2010) by John Jasperse, is a reflective exploration of time and accidental behavior and is marked by the interplay between Jasperse’s tightly conceived structures and his elusive movement style. The New York Times has said that Jasperse’s choreography has, “impeccable architectural deployment.”
Back by popular demand, Larry Keigwin’s “80’s Night” which premiered in 2007, is an entertaining and humorous look at popular culture in the 1980s. The dancers lead us on a journey back in time that revisits everything from music and movement to questionable fashion choices. The Salt Lake Tribune said that 80’s Night, “has laugh out loud humor,” and that “Keigwin’s precise strike of the mallet hit’s the underlying funny bone.”
Season tickets are still available at ririewoodbury.com for just $85 for general audience (nearly 30% off the regular ticket price) and just $52 for students with ID. Individual tickets are on sale now for $30 and $15 for students/seniors at ArtTix.org or by calling 355-ARTS.
Note to reporters: If you are interested in seeing the works in rehearsal, attending a dress rehearsal, arranging a photo shoot or setting up an interview with Charlotte Boye-Christensen or one of the dancers, please contact Dennis Busch: info@ririewoodbury.com, 801-297-4213
