Combined WSU Choirs and Weber State Symphony Orchestra Concert (Ogden: Dec 11)

RESCHEDULED!!!! Heavenly Holiday Music

Who: Weber State University Department of Performing Arts
What: Combined WSU Choirs and Weber State Symphony Orchestra Concert
When: Sunday,  11  December 2011, 8:00 p.m.
Where: Austad Auditorium, Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts

The annual holiday concert by the Weber State University Choirs and Symphony Orchestra at St. Joseph’s Church was postponed because of the National Weather Service HIGH WIND WATCH issued earlier in the day of the scheduled event. It has been rescheduled for Sunday, the 11th, but it has been moved to the Austad Auditorium, Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts because the church is not available on that day. There will be one concert only - at 8pm. Tickets purchased for either of the original performances can be used for this event. Those unable to use their tickets can receive a refund through the Dee Events Center Ticket Office. Tickets are $7 for adults; $6 for students, seniors and those with military I.D or $25 for a family up to 6 members.  Children six years and older are welcome to attend.

A feature of this year’s concert is the combined choirs and orchestra performing Vivaldi’s “Gloria” for Choir and Orchestra; John Rutter’s “Nativity Carol,” and a new Celtic arrangement of “Wexford Carol.” Also featured are works by three WSU composers: Thomas Root, Mark Henderson and Student Conductor Rawson Butts.

This program will also include early medieval, traditional and popular holiday music. The program will conclude with a German lesson as the audience is taught the German words to “Silent Night/Stille Nacht,” so they can join in on the chorus as the choirs sing all the verses. Hundreds of voices will fill the auditorium with beautiful harmony and few will leave the program without the feeling of peace this season is hoped to bring.

Dr. Mark Henderson conducts the WSU Chamber Choir and WSU Concert Choir. Dr. Michael Palumbo conducts the WSU Orchestra. The WSU Concert Choir and Weber State Symphony Orchestra will combine musicians on  “Gloria” and the individual groups will perform selections from their holiday repertoires. A tradition of many years will be “Still, Still, Still,” which has the Chamber singers spread throughout the church while they perform.

Children 8 years and older are welcome. Bring the family and friends and share the true holiday spirit!

Tickets for the performance are available at the Dee Events Center ticket office, 1-800-WSU-TIKS.  Tickets, if still available, can also be purchased at the door one hour before the performances.

For more information about the concert contact Dr. Mark Henderson, 626-6448 (mhenderson@weber.edu) or Dr. Michael Palumbo, 626-6991 (mpalumbo@weber.edu).
