SUU’s JAZZ BAND OFFERS
“A LITTLE MINOR BLOOZE”
WITH GUEST ARTIST WAYNE BERGERON
MARCH 24, 2012

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Combine a swinging ensemble of student musicians under the guidance of one jazzy Doctor of Music with an outstanding nationally renowned trumpet player and you have the makings of one remarkable night of music. Southern Utah University’s Department of Music’s Masterworks series presents A Little Minor Blooze featuring SUU’s Jazz Band with guest artist trumpeter Wayne Bergeron. Directed by SUU’s Dr. Thomas Herb, the evening’s program of sizzling selections will have you swinging and swaying in your seat. The concert will take place Saturday, March 24 in Cedar City’s Heritage Center Theater. The concert will kick off at 7:30pm.  Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for SUU Faculty and Staff, $4 for students and youth and SUU students are free with a valid ID.

The evening’s program will include a diverse area of highlights from the jazz catalog. Scheduled selections include two by Gordon Goodwin There's The Rub and Maynard and Waynard as well as High Clouds and a Good Chance of Wayne Tonight, Caught in The Moment, You Go To My Head, A Little Minor Booze, Gumba Blue and Chameleon. The world of cinema makes an appearance with a swinging performance of Alan Menken’s Friend Like Me from Disney’s animated hit feature film Aladdin.

Wayne Bergeron’s list of credits as a sideman and guest soloist reads like a Who’s Who in contemporary
jazz and pop, running the stylistic gamut from Ray Charles to Green Day to Tito Puente including such stellar names as Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Earth Wind & Fire, Chicago, Bette Midler, Dianne Reeves, Celine Dion, Diana Krall, Keely Smith, Joe Cocker, INXS, and Kenny G. His dazzling trumpet can also be heard on over 300 TV and motion picture soundtracks, a partial list of which includes such recent blockbusters as Mission Impossible 3, Superman Returns, X-Men 3, The Incredibles, Spiderman 2 and Anchorman. But easily his most personally gratifying work has come as a featured artist fronting a powerhouse large jazz ensemble, as Bergeron does with typical gusto and verve on his aptly-titled sophomore outing, Plays Well With Others. Backed by a polished crew of fellow first-call LA studio veterans, Bergeron flaunts his signature high note sizzle on ten challenging charts written explicitly for this session by longtime colleagues and prolific arrangers like Gordon Goodwin (“Maynard & Waynard”), Wally Minko (“Endless Torture”), Tom Kubis (“You Go To My Head,” “High Clouds and a Good Chance of
Wayne”), Geoff Stradling (“Scheherazade,” “Samba Brassiliero”), Bill Liston (“Georgia,” “You Hid What in the Sousaphone?”), Dan Higgins (“The Hipster”) and Joey Sellers (“Requiems”). On the show-stopping high note vehicle “Maynard & Waynard,” Bergeron goes toe-to-toe with the iconic trumpeter and big bandleader Maynard Ferguson.
