Free Screening of the film “Miss Evers’ Boys”

Salt Lake City -- The Grand Theater and Salt Lake Film Society present a free screening of the film “Miss Evers’ Boys”, Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at the Grand Theatre. This 1997 film, produced for HBO, features Alfre Woodard as Eunice Evers and Laurence Fishburne as Caleb Humphries. The film tells the story of the Tuskegee study, a secret government medical plan which restricted African American men from receiving treatment for syphilis. The story is told from the point of view of Eunice Evers, who is aware of the experiment, but uses her role as a nurse to console the men.

The film was adapted from the stage play written by David Feldshuh and directed by Joseph Sargent. “Miss Evers’ Boys” was nominated for eleven Emmy Awards and won in four categories, including Outstanding Made for Television Movie.

The Grand Theatre is producing the stage play “Miss Evers’ Boys” February 2-18, 2012. Ticket prices are $10-$24 and can be obtained by calling the Grand Theatre box office at (801) 957-3322 or online at www.the-grand.org.
