Job Description: The Utah Museum of Fine Arts is located on the campus of the University of Utah, and offers visitors the opportunity to explore over 5,000 years of human creativity with a collection of almost 18,000 objects and art works from classic Greek and Roman antiquities to cutting-edge, contemporary art. Founded in 1914 the UMFA is the State of Utah’s official museum, creating exhibitions and programs which serve a wide array of audiences. The Museum is located in the award-winning Marcia and John Price Museum Building.

The UMFA Manager of Annual Giving is responsible for strategic leadership and management of UMFA’s annual giving program, including membership and donor programs and fundraising events, with a goal to increase giving totals from these sources.

Essential Functions
1. Create and execute a long-range strategic plan for the UMFA’s annual giving program that includes an annual plan outlining revenue goals and department activities designed to reach those goals.

2. Manage the UMFA’s membership and donor programs.
a. Create and monitor the membership and donor group program budgets; perform monthly financial reconciliations.
b. Plan and execute effective membership acquisition, renewal, upgrade, and rejoin campaigns using direct mail, telephone, in-person, and web-based solicitation methods.
c. Write and oversee the design of effective membership and donor group solicitation pieces, publications, e-communications, and direct mail pieces.
d. Manage curatorial donor affinity groups, maintaining regular member communication, managing cultivation and stewardship events, providing customer service, soliciting new donors, and overseeing budgets.
e. Manage member and donor group cultivation and stewardship benefits and events.
f. Coordinate on-site membership sales, providing training, oversight, and recognition for front-of-house staff.
g. Identify, cultivate, and solicit members capable of giving at higher levels.
h. In coordination with the UMFA Director of Development, perform one-on-one donor solicitation of mid-level and major gifts.
i. Oversee maintenance of accurate and thorough giving records for all members and donors.
j. In coordination with UMFA Director of Development, serve as staff liaison to the Stewardship sub-committee of the Development Committee.

3. Manage and assist with UMFA Development and External Relations events.
a. Oversee event planning surrounding large-scale bi-annual fundraising event.
b. Oversee UMFA and volunteer staff pursuant to event management plans.
c. May assist with planning for smaller-scale fundraising events both on and off site.
d. May assist with planning for department-related cultivation and stewardship events both on and off site.

4. Manage the duties and performance of the Annual Giving Assistant and student interns.

5. Serve on internal project committees.

6. Represent the UMFA at appropriate University of Utah activities, on committees, and at community events.

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, related field, or equivalency; three years of fund-raising experience which includes direct solicitation of contributions, volunteer leadership support, written and verbal presentations, and strategy and market development are required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience in grant or proposal writing and a background working with local print and electronic media is preferred. Demonstrated negotiating skills are also preferred. This position has no responsibility of providing care to patients.
Master’s Degree and museum experience or art background preferred. Experience with Raiser’s Edge database software preferred.
