The Utah Center for the Book Invites Authors to Enter Utah Book Award
Local Award is an Opportunity to Spotlight Utah and Utah Authors

Salt Lake City, Utah, March 6, 2012 – Utah authors, or authors of books with a Utah theme, are invited to enter the Utah Book Award, which was established to honor exceptional achievements by Utah writers and to recognize outstanding literature written with a Utah theme or setting.

The Utah Center for the Book, housed at the Utah Humanities Council, invites nominations beginning January 1, 2012 for the annual award, which will honor books published in 2011 that are judged to best represent the literary culture of the state in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, young adult and children's literature. Administered by the Salt Lake City Public Library which founded the Utah Book Award in 1999, annual awards are given in the genres of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, young adult and children's literature.

The competition is open to Utah authors and authors of books with a Utah theme or setting. A "Utah author" need not currently reside in Utah if he/she is a Utah native or is an author who forged significant and sustained literary ties to Utah while residing here in the past. The deadline for entries is April 1, 2012 and entry forms are available at
http://www.utahhumanities.org/assets/UCBentryform11.pdf . Award winners will be announced in October 2012 at the Utah Humanities Book Festival in Salt Lake City, Utah.
