BOUNTIFUL, Utah, October 4, 2010 – The LeConte Stewart Festival was an annual event at Bountiful/Davis Art Center for the first two decades after its inception in 1974. This festival would feature the art of LeConte Stewart, his students and colleagues. In order to celebrate the importance of this well-known and influential Utah artist, Bountiful/Davis Art Center has decided to revive the festival this year. The theme of the festival is: LeConte Stewart: A Teachers’ Teacher.
A companion exhibit will feature the works of Diane Turner, also a student of LeConte Stewart and some of her students. Ms. Turner has kept the legacy of LeConte Stewart alive by teaching landscape painting for years at Bountiful/Davis Art Center.
Larry Wade and Glen Hawkins both well-known and accomplished Davis County artists will be featured in the North Gallery at BDAC during the exhibit.
In addition to viewing the exhibit in the galleries, patrons may want to participate in the following related events:
Family Encounters of the Art Kind, a family adventure in art, will be held on October 18 at BDAC. A film on LeConte Stewart by Claudia Sisemore will be shown in the Main Gallery. There will be a brief gallery talk by Mike Call, artist/teacher on the process of lithography and other aspects of LeConte Stewart’s art. The hands-on art project for this event will be x-ray drawings for Halloween. The kids will draw an outline of their body and then draw their skeleton inside. We're doing this on black paper with white chalk. The event is free to the public and goes from 7:00-8:30pm.
On October 29, BDAC will present the 2nd annual ‘Evening in the Art’. This event premiered last year and was a great success. Entertainment will be provided by the Two Sopranos and Three Tenors amidst the art of LeConte Stewart. Works of art by well-known local artists and other items will be auctioned. Delicious hors d’oeuvres and short films in the theater downstairs will round out the evening. Tickets are $30 each and are available at Bountiful/Davis Art Center and online at www.bdac.org
The festival will provide several opportunities for patrons to view selected works by LeConte Stewart, his students and contemporaries as we celebrate the legacy of this most revered and influential artist.
Apple Frame Gallery, 70 North Main Street in Bountiful, Utah is exhibiting the Sixth Annual LeConte Stewart Country, featuring plein air landscape paintings by noted Utah artists. This exhibit goes through October 30, 2010. For more information: 801 298-1227.
