SUU’S ART INSIGHTS TO FEATURE
FIGURATIVE PAINTER ALESSANDRA SULPY
OCTOBER 21, 2010
Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: A figurative painter who vividly depicts “unknown realms” in her work is how Alessandra Sulpy describes her body of work. Her unique process and art are featured in SUU’s Department of Art and Design’s weekly lecture series, Art Insights, on Thursday, October 21, 2010. The lecture begins at 7pm at SUU’s Great Hall in the Hunter Conference Center and admission is free and the general public is encouraged to attend.
A Visiting Assistant Professor of Art in SUU’s College of Performing and Visual Arts, Alessandra Sulpy graduated Magna Cum Laude from Maryland Institute College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and a minor in art history. From Maryland, she enrolled at Indiana University from which she received her Master in Fine Arts degree in painting. Sulpy’s lecture is going to focus on her body of work, with mention of her artistic influences, her process, and how she came to paint what she paints -- the evolution of her work -- as well as what sort of inspirations and philosophies drive her work.
Art Insights is a weekly program hosted during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art and Design faculty. Students and community members meet weekly to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights and attend gallery openings. Admission is free, and the general public is invited to attend.
Painter Alessandra Sulpy invites you to experience “new realms” when you attend her Art Insights’ appearance. For more information on the SUU College of Performing and Visual Arts events, please call the Arts Hotline at (435) 865-8800, or visit www.suu.edu/arts.
