SUU’S ART INSIGHTS SHOWCASES THE WORK
OF PAINTER PERIN MAHLER
OCTOBER 14, 2010

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Using paintings to illustrate aspects of both his personal and professional life, Perin Mahler has created art that is as uniquely biographical as it is illuminating. His provocative approach to painting is showcased in SUU’s Department of Art and Design’s weekly lecture series, Art Insights, on Thursday, October 14, 2010. The lecture begins at 7pm at SUU’s Centrum Arena. Admission is free and the general public is encouraged to attend.

Lauded for his recent body of work, titled “Autobiographies,” Perin Mahler skillfully manipulates a photograph and then vividly captures his subject in startling color revealing a unique connection to the artist himself. Mahler holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, and a master of fine arts degree in painting from Queens College in New York, New York. His works have been acquired and are among such distinguished collections as The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Sirak Collection in Columbus, Ohio, Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut, and the San Francisco Art Institute. In addition, his works have been exhibited throughout the United States. Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Art at Laguna College of Art and Design, Laguna Beach, California, where he directs the master of fine arts program in painting.

Art Insights is a weekly program hosted during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art and Design faculty. Students and community members meet weekly to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights and attend gallery openings. Admission is free, and the general public is invited to attend.

To witness the art of Perin Mahler, the viewer explores painting that is both personal and riveting. Experience Mahler’s work for yourself by attending Art Insights.
