UMOCA CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Locals Only Gallery (SLC: Through Nov 4)

Online submissions accepted now through Nov. 4, 2012

The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art is now accepting submissions for the Locals Only Gallery. The space is open to artists who are currently working in Utah. Online submissions will be accepted now through Nov. 4, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. Exhibition dates will be Jan. 4-April 20, 2013.

“The Locals Only Gallery is one manifestation of UMOCA’s commitment to the local art community, ensuring that local artists have a presence here at all times,” said Adam Price, executive director at UMOCA.

Applicants for the Locals Only Gallery should have a clear proposal for a compelling and feasible project that will fit appropriately in the gallery. Artists may propose an exhibition of their own work, or a curated exhibition of artists living in Utah. UMOCA seeks work that is contemporary, professionally-produced, and responds to the diverse demographic of visitors that UMOCA enjoys. Proposals in all formats from site-specific, multi-media, or performative projects, to photography, painting, drawing, video, sound, and sculpture are welcome. A modest allowance is provided by UMOCA to cover the cost of time and materials.

“This is an incredible opportunity to have a focused presentation of an artist’s work within the context of a larger contemporary art dialogue,” said Aaron Moulton, senior curator at UMOCA. “In the process it becomes a portrait of how Utah and its artists generate their own language of contemporary art.”

The Locals Only Gallery has cement floors and drywall walls with electrical power and lighting available. Artists are encouraged to visit UMOCA during regular hours to view the space.

The gallery dimensions are as follows: width: 18’, depth: 20’, ceiling: 9.5’. Total Dimension: 363 Square Feet, 61.5 Linear Feet

Proposals submitted by Utah artists will be kept on file for one year and will be considered for all rounds during that year. For more information, visithttp://www.utahmoca.org/exhibitions/open-submissions/.
