DOWNTOWN ALLIANCE, UNIVERSITY OF UTAH “PAINTS THE TOWN RED” ON FOOD TRUCK THURSDAY
Downtown is the “Home of the Utes”

Salt Lake City (September 4, 2013) –  Utah Utes day at Food Truck Thursday's on the Gallivan Center Plaza will be held on September 5th.  Utah Athletics will be on hand from 11am-2pm with the Utah football tunnel, the Utah Redzone apparel kiosk, tents including student-athletes, the Utah Spirit Squad, Swoop the mascot, and lots of free giveaways & promotional materials. The goal of the presence is to generate excitement for a home football game against Weber State the following Saturday, September 7th as well as the entire 2013-2014 Utah Athletics season.

"Being a college town means more than just banners and pep rallies," said Jason Mathis, executive director of the Downtown Alliance. "This partnership creates a tangible sense of excitement that supports more retail sales and makes our downtown more attractive for start up businesses and corporate recruitment efforts."

Downtown Salt Lake City is the “Home of the Utes“.  Each fall during the Ute football season downtown businesses are invited to join in on Painting the Town Red by decorating their business or storefront in Ute graphics and décor for the duration of the football season.  Businesses that are interested in participating will receive free decorating packets courtesy of Utah Athletics.

This initiative offers downtown businesses the opportunity to show support for the U and offers another great incentive for Ute fans to patronize their business in support of the U. Paint the Town Red also gives downtown a fun college-town atmosphere. “We view our athletics department as an extension of the community and this partnership with the downtown businesses is a great example of the community coming together,” said Utah Director of Athletics Dr. Chris Hill. “College football games provide a unique entertainment opportunity for residents, visitors, University students and faculty, and we think painting the town red will be fun for everyone.”

SWOOP will surprise select Paint the Town Red participating businesses with the Spirit Squad on September 24th to show appreciation for downtown retailers and restaurants with University of Utah decorations.

The Downtown Alliance is dedicated to building a dynamic and diverse community that is the regional center for culture, commerce and entertainment. For more information, visit downtownslc.org
