SALT LAKE CITY—Neighborhood House Association, an organization committed to providing quality, affordable day care and support services to children and adults based on their ability to pay, in partnership with the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) will begin painting for the 2013 Urban Gallery installation on Friday, August 30, 2013. Local artists will transfer and then elaborate selected children’s drawings as they are projected onto the garage doors in the Neighborhood House parking lot at 1050 W. 500 S.
“We are thrilled to collaborate again with UMOCA on the Urban Gallery. Their commitment to local artists and community outreach make them the perfect partner for “Drawn Together.” This project is in line with our commitment to bringing exciting art to communities who have limited access to quality art programs,” said Jacob Brace, executive director at Neighborhood House
This year’s installation, entitled Urban Gallery VI: “Drawn Together,” is a unique collaboration of work by professional artists and the creativity of children’s drawings. Children’s art was contributed by Bad Dog Arts, Discovery Gateway, and Neighborhood House children. UMOCA selected eight children’s drawings to become the inspiration for the paintings on the garage doors of Neighborhood House. Eight Utah artists, invited by UMOCA from Park City, Ogden, and Salt Lake City, will then have two weeks to interpret the drawings and add their own creative vision to create a painting that has been “Drawn Together.”
