NEWS: Local Business Founded By Rape Survivor Reaches One Year Milestone; Promotes Confidence & Inspires Women

WRITE FOR HER SCARVES, FOUNDED BY RAPE SURVIVOR, REACHES ONE-YEAR MILESTONE
Local business promotes confidence, inspires women with custom hand printed scarves

Layton, UT (August 26, 2013) – Write For Her Scarves will celebrate a one-year anniversary this September. Founded by Layton woman Judith Campau, this local family business based on doing well by doing good, individually prints silk-screened custom scarves featuring inspirational phrases. The inspiration to make these scarves began 20 years ago after Judith was encouraged by her doctor to overcome a tragic rape by writing a note to herself. A message to remind Judith of her own great worth helped to regain self-confidence during recovery.

The idea of comforting notes was extended to scarves, suitable to be worn year-round, when Judith’s mother-in-law was undergoing cancer treatments. “I hadn’t considered notes on scarves as a business idea,” said Judith Campau, founder of Write for Her Scarves. “It began when I realized what these messages meant to the person that receives it. To wrap, literally and figuratively, your love around a special person’s neck is a powerful way to inspire and comfort those closest to you.”  The first message on a scarf was “When I Can’t Be There, Consider Yourself Wrapped In My Love”.  Judith shares her experience, strength and hope of a very vulnerable life event in the hope it will help others.

Since then, Write for Her has grown to offer multiple messages, as well as any individualized custom message, on a variety of imported Indian cotton/silk blend scarves, as well as 100% silk pashminas. In one year over 1,000 women have wrapped one of Judith’s inspirational messages around their neck for friends ("Friendship Is Not About Whom You Have Known The Longest It's About Who Came And Never Left Your Side”), grandparents ("The best thing about having you as my mom, is my children having you as their Grandma."), or religious women ("I am amazing, I am strong, I am beautiful, I am kind, I am of great worth, I am honest, I am Loved, I am a daughter of God”).

Additional messages include “Live, Laugh, Love”, inspired by Judith’s 13-year old daughter, "There is no better friend than a sister.  And there is no better sister than you," and “Not all superheroes wear capes… Some wear scarves.”

A chief mission of Write for Her is to make a positive difference in the lives of women. The scarves themselves are an expression of caring for another, as well as aligning with charities. A portion of Writer for Her’s proceeds are donated to organizations dedicating to helping women. Safe Haven, who works with abused women and several cancer centers are provided with a custom scarf by customers making a donation. Through a partnership with A Celebration of Real Beauty (ACRB), a group devoted to promoting a healthy self image in women of all ages, each organization donates proceeds to Project Heal from the purchase of a specific scarf. This lavender scarf, printed with a specific ACRB quote, benefits Project Heal to assist women through eating disorders.

Write for Scarves are available at a variety of retail fashion shows, including  A Celebration of Real Beauty (Sept 7, Sandy, UT), SLC Family Christmas Gift Show (Nov 15-17, Sandy, UT), as well at writeforherscarves.com
