CUAC is pleased to present Dark Markets, an exhibition organized by Interstate Projects of Brooklyn, New York.
Dark Markets
is a group show comprised of work by artists that use the Internet as a
platform and foundational source for their work that exposes various
online markets. The exhibition will feature the work of Ann Hirsch
(NYC), Joe Brittain (NYC) and Cheon pyo Lee (NYC).
Video
and performance artist, Ann Hirsch explores issues of young women?s
sexual self-expression by using her past as an example for viewers to
reflect on their own adolescence. CUAC will exhibit objects that are
part of Hirsch?s larger ongoing project, Playground, in which she mines
her adolescent memories and archives from the late ?90s, during which
time she participated in a relationship with a 29 year old man via an
AOL chat room.
Joe
Brittain presents formally minimalist objects comprised of
unconventional materials. In CUAC Brittain will exhibit two sculptures
that contain chemicals sourced from India via eBay. The chemicals,
melatonin (mixed with moonshine) and bovine dopamine (mixed with black
ink), fill the vessels and result in a visually clean and sterile
object.
Cheon
pyo Lee?s work is an ongoing investigation of worldwide networks of
currency exchange. Lee will show multiple sculptures at CUAC, the
largest and most physically interactive of which is Chinese Waterfall.
In this sculpture Lee has created a mechanized conveyor belt that allows
participators to feed American dollar bills through a stream of money
counters, which travel through a loop that culminates at the top of the
stream, where the process can begin again but only with the participants
action.
Interstate
Projects focuses on presenting the work of young, emerging artists, and
works to connect artists and ideas from across the country. The gallery
is located in Bushwick at 66 Knickerbocker Ave, Brooklyn NY 11237. For
