Mayor Becker and the City Council have established a Signature Events Fund (SEF) within the City budget to provide a means whereby “Salt Lake City can sponsor and support major events in an equitable and transparent manner.” This fund has been in place for four years and has granted sponsorships to events large and small throughout Salt Lake City, ranging in amounts from $1,000 to $15,000. This fiscal year, $170,000 has been set aside for events. Beginning this year, the City will initiate this process in the fall and we are now accepting applications for SEF sponsorship proposals for 2014 events.
The Signature Events Fund is designed to support both larger events that provide significant economic and/or cultural contributions to the community and smaller events that, due to their nature and scope, are unable to generate the needed revenue to cover presentation costs. We ask that event organizers apply for the amount that is most appropriate for the event. Please be mindful that the three levels are established to provide a range of options and that your proposal should be appropriate for the size of your event and the sponsorship value received by the City.
The three sponsorship tiers are as follows:
Tier 3 – up to $5,000
Tier 2 - $5,001 to $10,000
Tier 1 - $10,001 to $15,000
Salt Lake City encourages applicants to be creative and include details on elements and programs. Considerations for sponsorships will be based on the following general criteria: 1) public and community benefit; 2) economic impact; 3) cultural and civic contribution; 4) financial position and need of the event; and 5) relationship to Salt Lake City's mission to be “the best place to live, work, play, visit and do business.”
Private events and fundraisers are not eligible for Signature Event Fund sponsorship. Events that receive support from other City funds are also not eligible for consideration. Organizers’ repayment history for previous events will also be taken into consideration for future event sponsorship.
Please complete the application form and attach a sponsorship proposal no more than two pages in length for events that take place throughout 2014. Applications are due no later than Friday, December 6 at 5:00 pm. Recipients of sponsorships will be notified by early January, 2014. Sponsorship proposals can be submitted via e-mail toTalitha.Day@slcgov.com or can be hand delivered to the Salt Lake City Special Events Office at the Gallivan Center:

Please include in your proposal what benefits Salt Lake City Corporation will receive as a sponsor and demonstrate a return of investment for the taxpayer dollars dedicated to your event. Beyond the economic benefit, we recognize the importance of the cultural, educational, and community building benefits that can be part of a public event.
