40 Years Fundraiser @ SLAC (SLC: May 15)

SALT LAKE ACTING COMPANY CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF GROUNDBREAKING THEATRE WITH THEMED FUNDRAISER PARTY.

Salt Lake Acting Company is thrilled to invite friends and supporters to a themed fundraiser party to celebrate 40 years of achievement on Saturday, May 15, at 6pm. Four decades of the most exciting, provocative, and entertaining live theatre on the Wasatch Front are culminating in a New Decade/New Work fundraiser that aims to celebrate the past and energize the future of one of Salt Lake’s most enduring and innovative theatre companies. Sheryl Ivey, Board Member and co-chair of the fundraising committee, said: “SLAC has been bringing exciting, energetic, and thought-provoking theatre to Salt Lake City since 1970. This event is a chance for the arts community to celebrate SLAC’s history and to ensure that we remain a nurturing home for emerging playwrights and new, stimulating works like this season’s CHARM by Kathleen Cahill.”

The fundraiser will take place in the SLAC building and there will be entertainment by the current cast of SATURDAY’S VOYEUR, music by The Disgusting Brothers, and dancing. Partygoers are invited to come-as-they-are, or to dress in their best costumes from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and today. A prize will be awarded for the best costume. There will also be tempting food and drinks by Gastronomy, My Dough Girl, Rico’s, Rimini Coffee, Tony Caputo’s, Trio, and Uinta Brewing Company, all included in the ticket price. Party-goers will be invited to bid on a range of auction items which include unique fine jewelry from William’s Jewelers, artwork from celebrated Utah artists, restaurant gift certificates including Lugano’s, The Dodo, Gastronomy and Alta Lodge, a Scott Sportster Road Bike, Salt Lake Bees box seats, a lunch and conversation with Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon, and a hand-selected case of wine from a connoisseur’s personal cellar. There will also be auction items that offer the opportunity to get away or pamper yourself; a three-day weekend vacation cabin in Sun Valley, an overnight stay in the Hotel Monaco, a one-night retreat and stay at the Historic Maynard Dixon Home and Studio, a certificate from the Salon at Richelle’s and golf passes, towels and a lesson at the Golf Lab.

Colleen Sorensen, Board Member and co-chair of the Fundraising Committee, said of the event: “Guests can enjoy a night of excellent company, great food and drinks, dancing to live music from a great band, and bidding on all of our incredible auction items. So, if you’re interested in bidding on fantastic jewelry, art and photography by local artists, gift certificates to great restaurants, passes to Lagoon, spa treatments, and so much more- why wouldn't you want to attend? It will be a night to be remembered.”

The fundraiser will benefit SLAC’s Play Development Program. Executive Producers Keven Myhre and Cynthia Fleming said: “We would love to be able to build relationships with Tony Kushner, Peter Sinn Nachtrieb and Annie Baker, the playwrights for next season’s plays, and have them attend their Opening Night and read a new play of theirs for our New Play Sounding Series. We are commissioning a playwright, as well. This fundraiser will also support our Summer Play Festival where theatre, dance and performing artists utilize SLAC’s resources and knowledge as they develop and perform their work.”

The fundraiser tickets cost $100 per person and there is a two-for-one rate for Age 30 and under. Tickets are available at by phone at 801- 3637522, online at www.saltlakeactingcompany.org, or at the SLAC box office in person, 168 W 500 N, Salt Lake City.
