Jazz at the Station, a monthly program designed to give local jazz fans and performers an opportunity to meet and enjoy jazz, presents Stick Shift, performing bluegrass jazz, Wednesday, May 12, at 7:00 pm in the Grand Lobby of Ogden’s Union Station. This is a free, all-ages performance. Well-behaved children are welcome. Guests are invited to come early and enjoy refreshments provided and sold by the Union Grill.

Stick Shift a new Blue Grass/Jazz Ensemble features WSU students and graduates Alan Watts, fiddle and vocals; Adam Koslewski, guitar; Sam Runulfson, cello; Taylor Malrose, bass; Ammon Turnblom, drums; Benjamin Yuill, violin.

Stick Shift has its beginning in pure bluegrass but as they have expanded their repertoire the bluegrass form of taking turns with the tune naturally led to jazz riffs on many of their songs as one or more instruments each plays the melody and improvises around it, while the others perform accompaniment. When Benjamin Yuill, violin, joined the group they upped the jazz ante considerably, as Benjamin is also a member of the WSU Jazz Ensemble, where he channels Stephane Grappelli and other jazz violinists in that swinging heritage.

Everyone is invited to attend this all-ages event. Well-behaved children are welcome.
