JOB: Development Specialist @ Leonardo

DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST:

The Leonardo seeks a development specialist to join its highly motivated and hard-working development team, which is in the midst of a major campaign. This specialist will work closely with the director of development and the rest of The Leonardo staff to open Utah's first science-tech-art center on April 15, 2011, and to lead the museum field in engaging visitors with cutting edge topics and conversation.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Development Specialist will be an integral part of the development team and work closely with the Director of Development and the Executive Director. The development team is in the final stages of a $25 million capital campaign with $5 million left to raise. The development officer will be tasked with implementing a corporate sponsor program, cultivating relationships in the business community, selling sponsorship opportunities, and managing and writing grants to public and private organizations. Specific responsibilities will include:

· Create and present sponsorship opportunities to corporate donors

· Cultivate and track in-kind donations

· Work with development director on sponsorship recognition

· Maintain donor contact records

· Help plan and implement fundraising events

· Write grant proposals and reports and manage grant process from identification of prospect to final report

· Work closely with the government relations team to assist in public funding opportunities

· Conduct research to identify foundations and corporations as new funding sources

· Work with development director to create an annual funding program to raise $1.5 million a year

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

· 2-5 years of direct experience in corporate and individual fundraising, grant writing, and fund raising event planning. Development experience should be in the non-profit sector, however some sales and marketing experience in the corporate sector in addition would be advantageous.

· The successful applicant will have experience in organizing corporate sponsorship programs, cultivating prospects and selling sponsorships.

· They will also possess grant writing experience with a track record of successful submissions. Understanding of the federal system of grants and appropriations is ideal.

· Computer knowledge of all basic Microsoft Office programs: Word and Excel are required; additional knowledge of PowerPoint and Publisher is preferred.

· Experience in database entry and donor management systems are required; Giftworks database experience is preferred.

· We will be looking for individuals that have excellent writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Applicants that have marketing experience or experience in running a membership program will be given extra consideration.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in communications, business or related field of study and/or equivalent work experience.
