YOUNG ARTISTS SHOWCASED
AT 2010 HIGH SCHOOL FINE ART COMPETITION
SUU’S BRAITHWAITE FINE ARTS GALLERY
SEPTEMBER 9-OCTOBER 9, 2010
Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: The creative visions of 33 high school art students from the state of Utah will be showcased at the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery during the 2010 High School Fine Arts Competition. This vibrant exhibit will open with a reception on Thursday, September 9 at 7pm in the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery and will remain through Saturday, October 9, 2010. Admission is free and the exhibit is open to the public.
This year’s theme, “Such stuff as dreams are made on,” comes from William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The students used this quote to shape their inspiration, spark their vision and develop their submissions. The results include artwork that uses a diverse array of media including ceramics, color pencil, graphite, photography, acrylic and metal. The selected student works were either newly created for the competition or taken from the participant’s existing portfolio in response to the theme. The final entries were chosen by a panel of professional artists.
This annual Fine Arts Competition, in its third year, is a unique collaboration with the Utah Shakespearean Festival and the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery. Cash awards, special recognitions and potential scholarships for the winners will be presented in conjunction with the winners of the High School Shakespeare Competition in an evening ceremony on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at 7pm on campus in the Centrum Arena.
This exhibition is made possible through grants from the Utah Arts Council and Cedar City’s RAP Tax Fund.
Come to the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery at Southern Utah University and celebrate the creative spirit of 33 fledgling artists by experiencing the 2010 High School Fine Arts Competition.
