The Weber State University Master of Arts in English Program presents a short play, “Tristram Shandy, Gentleman,” Tuesday, 2:00 pm, September 21, in the Hetzel-Hoellein Room (Special Collections), Stewart Library, WSU campus. The play will be presented again on Sunday, October 3, 2:00 pm at Universe City, 2556 Washington Boulevard. These are free performances, open to the public.
The play is adapted by Dr. Victoria Ramirez from Laurence Sterne’s 18th Century novel, “The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman; staged & directed by Stephanie Heath. Heath and Ramirez bring to life Tristram’s autobiography, filled with flashbacks, playbacks, and good-natured paybacks. The story features Tristram’s father, Walter, his uncle, Mr. Toby Shandy, and a host of zany characters. Tristram brings us to Shandy Hall in this loopy memoire, in which the author manages to write himself out of his own story. The terrible truth: the more Tristram writes, the more he must write, as tangled relations and digressions begin to take on a life of their own.

Ramirez says, “Tristram’s wacky tale reminds us, amid the laughter, that our individual identity really takes a village. We are excited to present this work at WSU before we take it on the road. We are nvited performers at the Superior Festival X at Lake Superior State University on Oct 14-16!:
