Preservation Workshop and Bus Tour, Sept 18
Murray City History Advisory Board will host a free history preservation workshop on September 18 at the Historic Murray Chapel located at 4886 S Poplar Street just west of State Street. The workshop will begin at 9:30 am with a walking tour of Poplar Street to discuss exterior maintenance tips. Beginning at 10:30 am, historic preservation professionals Don Hartley and Robert Young will present examples and tips on proper maintenance and updating historic buildings including energy efficiency while retaining historic integrity. Funding sources including tax credits will be discussed. Participants can grab a bite to eat on their own and then enjoy a 90 minute bus tour at 1:30 to discover little-known history facts about various homes, buildings, and neighborhoods in Murray in a city-wide tour. Fee is $5 for the bus tour. Participants will receive a free walking tour book and a smelter video. Reservations for the workshop or the bus tour can be made by phoning Mary Ann Kirk at 801-264-2638.
