SUU’S ART INSIGHTS TO FEATURE
CONCEPT ARTIST PAUL HAMBLIN
SEPTEMBER 16, 2010

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Developing images to support a filmmaker’s vision requires the expertise and skill of a concept artist, whose unique illustrative style creates new worlds or reshapes existing ones. Department Chair Eric Brown is pleased to announce that SUU’s Department of Art and Design’s weekly lecture series, Art Insights, features a lively discussion with such a creator of unique visions, concept artist Paul Hamblin. The discussion begins at 7pm on Thursday, September 16, 2010, in SUU’s Great Hall. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

Working for Imagemovers Digital, Robert Zemeckis’ animation studio, Paul Hamblin was handpicked by Academy Award®-winning creative designer Doug Chiang to be a concept artist for the studio’s acclaimed IMAX 3D film, A Christmas Carol. Hamblin has also contributed to such upcoming film projects as Mars Needs Mom (scheduled for release in 2011) and the anticipated 3D adaptation of the classic Beatles animated feature, Yellow Submarine (scheduled for release 2012). Hamblin, who graduated from SUU with a B.A. in illustration, is returning to share his experiences about his career and working in his unique field.

Art Insights is a weekly program hosted during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art and Design faculty. Students and community members meet weekly to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights and attend gallery openings. Admission is free, and the general public is invited to attend.
