Gallery Exhibition Proposals Due August 1

Gallery Exhibition Proposals Due August 1
Rio and Alice Merrill Horne Galleries Accepting Submissions

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Arts & Museums is now accepting exhibition proposals for its Rio and Alice Merrill Horne galleries. The Rio and Alice galleries were created as a service to Utah artists. They provide a free venue for both emerging and established artists to collaborate on exhibitions and educate the community through their artwork.

Proposals from artists, arts organizations and independent curators are welcome. Proposals for group shows (two artists or more) representing all types of media are accepted. The Utah Arts & Museums visual arts committee will review and select proposals. Quality of work, completion and clarity of the proposal and balance of media submitted for the season will all be considered. Works exhibited in other SaltLake venues up to six months prior to the scheduled exhibition will not be accepted. The committee reserves the right to make final decisions on which works will be placed on exhibition.

“Utah Arts & Museums has a mission to advance the arts in all their phases,” said Director of Utah Arts & Museums Margaret Hunt. “By providing galleries for today's talented artists to exhibit their work, we’re continuing the vision of our founder, Alice Merrill Horne, to nurture the arts and artists of Utah.”

The Rio Gallery is located at 300 S. Rio Grande Street (455 West) in Salt Lake City
(riogallery.org). The Alice Merrill Horne Gallery is located at 617 E. South Temple in Salt Lake City (alicegallery.org). Hours for both galleries are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The galleries participate in the monthly Salt Lake Gallery Strolls and host public receptions on Gallery Stroll evenings.

Proposals are due August 1, 2012. Proposals may be dropped off at either gallery or e-mailed to Laura Durham, Visual Arts Manager, ldurham@utah.gov, 801.533.3582. Notification will be made no later than mid-August.
