NEWS: 20 Tons of Sand Gets Dumped on the Utah Arts Festival Will Become Art


What: 20 tons of sand will be delivered and dumped on the Utah Arts Festival grounds at 200 East and 400 South. Sand artist Ted Siebert will move in for the week at the Festival and create a giant sand sculpture. The work will be complete mid-Festival sometime between June 21 and June 24. Festival-goers will be able to watch the sand evolve into a work of art.

About Ted Siebert: Siebert is at the helm of the Sand Sculpture Company who is know for its outrageously large and detailed work. More than a mere sand castle, Siebert and his artists are the current world record holders for the tallest hand shoveled sand sculpture; 24’ .02” in 86 hours. In all, The Sand Sculpture Company sculptors have set a total of six world records dating back to 1989 (a record that no other crew can lay claim to).

The 2012 Utah Arts Festival runs Thursday, June 21 through Sunday, June 24 from noon to 11 p.m. on Library Square, 400 South and 200 East in downtown Salt Lake City.

Adult admission is $10 at the gate, $7 in advance. Children 12 and under are free. Seniors 65 and above are $5. Reduced adult admission is $5 and available from noon to 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
