to Certified Local Governments

Salt Lake CityUT – Utah State History has awarded $147,000 in matching grants to 20 Certified Local Governments (CLGs) for the 2012-2013 grant year. CLG Grants assist local governments in documenting and preserving historic buildings and archaeological sites. The grants, which consist of federal and state funds, require a 50/50 match of local funds or donated services.  For more information on the Certified Local Government program, visit http://history.utah.gov.

Beaver - $10,000 to upgrade the electrical system on the National Register-listed Beaver City Opera House,

Centerfield - $9,950 for interior rehabilitation work on the National Register-listed Centerfield School and Meetinghouse.

Centerville - $10,000 for rehabilitation work on the National Register-listed Thomas and Sara Whitaker house, to conduct a selective reconnaissance level survey, to prepare a National Register nomination, attend the Utah Preservation Conference, and to publish a walking tour booklet of historic Centerville City homes.

Draper - $6,265 for rehabilitation work on the National Register-listed Joseph & Celestia Smith House, attend a preservation conference, and purchase and install historic markers for sites listed on the Draper Historic Sites List and/or the National Register of Historic Places.

Emery County - $4,250 to purchase and install a historic marker at the Lucky Strike Mining Area, attend the Utah Preservation Conference, and collect, organize and index documents, manuscripts, photographs, oral histories, etc.

Heber - $10,000 for rehabilitation work on the National Register-listed Heber City Amusement Hall.

Hurricane - $9,950 for electrical upgrade work on the National Register-listed Hurricane Library and City Hall (Hurricane Valley Heritage Park and Museum). 

Lehi - $8,000 for rehabilitation work on the National Register-listed Lehi Veterans Memorial Building (John Hutching Museum).
                                                                                          
Lindon - $800 to purchase and install 5 historical markers at selected Lindon historic sites.

Morgan County - $3,000 to hire a professional consultant to complete historical documentation on approximately 16 historic buildings.

Orem - $1,500 to hire
 a professional consultant will be hired to complete intensive level survey documentation on 3 historic buildings and purchase and install a Utah historical site marker for the Historic Olmstead Power Plant.

Parowan - $7,771 to update and reprint ParowanUtah – Rich in Heritage, Recreation & Natural Beauty and Parowan Cemetery – A Walking Tour through Pioneer Folk Art and History.  The information will also be available on the city’s website for public access.

Pleasant Grove - $10,000 for rehabilitation work on the National Register-listed Pleasant Grove School, Pioneer Memorial Cabin and Hatch Granary, and the Ashton-Driggs Home.

Providence - $3,900 to hire a professional consultant to complete intensive level survey documentation on the limestone quarry in Providence Canyon.  The grant will also be used to create a DVD, PowerPoint presentation and activity book that tell the history of the limestone quarry, and to purchase and install a historic district entrance sign.

Salt Lake City - $24,950 to hire a professional consultant to complete intensive level survey documentation on amending the National Register historic district nominations for the Avenues and South Temple (including windshield surveys), and to conduct a standard reconnaissance level survey of the Central City Historic District. The grant will also be used to send members of the historic preservation commission to national, regional, and local conferences related to historic preservation.

Sandy - $3,500 to hire a professional consultant to complete intensive level survey documentation on 2 historic buildings, update and publish Sandy City's historic walking tour booklet, and attend the Utah Preservation Conference.

South Jordan - $6,000 to design, purchase, and install 11 historical markers at the National Register-listed Samuel Holt Farmstead.

St. George - $10,000 to replace the existing HVAC equipment with a new, more energy-efficient HVAC system at the National Register-listed St. George Opera House, and attend the Utah Preservation Conference.

Tooele County - $3,000 for rehabilitation work on the National Register-listed Wendover Air Force Base.

Torrey - $5,000 for rehabilitation work on the National Register-listed Torrey Log Church/School House.
