THE SOUTHERN UTAH ART INVITATIONAL EXHIBIT AND SALE

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Art enthusiasts seeking a destination rich with remarkable works by some of southern Utah’s most gifted artists should not miss the annual Southern Utah Art Invitational Exhibit and Sale. Showcasing the art and artists of Cedar City and the Southern Utah region, this vibrant exhibition will run June 20 through August 25, 2012 at the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallerylocated on the lower level of the Braithwaite Building on the Southern Utah University campus. The gallery’s summer hours are Monday–Saturday, 10am–8pm. Admission is free, and the general public is encouraged to attend.
Featuring works by some of Southern Utah’s most celebrated artists as well as introducing the art of rising young talent, the annual Southern Utah Art Invitational Exhibit and Sale will display over 200 pieces from many mediums of art including painting, photography, woodcarving and ceramics. Among the more established artists, there are breath-taking pastels by Arlene Braithwaite, vibrant paintings by Royden Card, Valerie Orlemann and J. Brad Holt, colorful glasswork by Carrie Trenholm, and stunning ceramics by Susan Harris and Seth Green. New artists to the Invitational this year include potter Harold Snider, and photographer Asher Swan. Works on exhibit can be purchased on sight at the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery during the exhibition.
The artists featured in the Southern Utah Art Invitational Exhibit and Sale are committed to the great legacy that art has the power to inform, inspire and influence. These artisans donate work to the Friends of the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery Annual Art Auction. The proceeds from this fund-raising event go to benefit the community through education and outreach programs for Iron County students as well as support of the Friends-sponsored fall exhibition which brings exceptional international and regional art to the gallery. Thanks to the support of these artists, the Braithwaite’s programs and fall exhibition are free.
The Southern Utah Art Invitational Exhibit and Sale will run concurrently with other exhibitions scheduled for summer 2012. At the Braithwaite, the smaller gallery will feature a colorful collection of posters inThe Psychedelic Years: Rock Posters & Handbills from the San Francisco Bay Area, 1966-1971, in Celebration of the 10th Anniversary of GrooveFest. The handbills will be on exhibit in SUU’s Gerald R. Sherratt Library on the third floor, Monday-Thursday, 8am-7pm, Friday, 8am-5pm and Saturday, 10am-2pm. The library is just a short walk from the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery. These exhibits will run June 20 to August 25, 2012.
Stunning vistas from the Dixie National Forest are showcased in another SUU exhibition. Into the Woods: A Painted Diary of the Dixie National Forest by Arlene Braithwaite features 20 extraordinary canvases by the acclaimed regional artist. The show continues through Saturday, August 25, 2012. The exhibit’s hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00am-5:00pm, except holidays and special events in the Conference Center. Admission is free and the general public is encouraged to attend.
